Take a ferry from Patriots Point or LIberty Square It's a 30 minute ferry ride and you have about an hour to explore the fort. Informative display panels make it easy to explore on your own

This is the place. It's one thing ready about history. You really must go to historical site to put things in context. The boat ride is good just by itself. The views of Charleston are very good from the fort. I learned a lot about...More

The boat ride is nothing special but the lessons learned from the ranger at Fort Sumter were important. I appreciated the time taken to explain the various occupations at the fort and their significance in American history.

The fort is all open but I believe they do. When I went it was sunny and while at the fort it turned black and poured!! Boats were still running back and forth. Hope that helps. Hope you get to see it!!
