Fort Sumter is located on an island in Charleston Harbor and is only accessible by boat. The boat ride takes approximately 30 minutes with interesting facts given while riding. We saw 8 dolphins in the water! Great views of city, Arthur Ravenel Bridge, gorgeous homes. Your on the island for one hour and 10 minutes. Listen to the park rangers... More

We are history buffs so this fort was the first item on the list when we decided to visit Charleston. The ferry ride was enjoyable although crowded and unless you sit inside there are not enough seats. Who wants to sit inside on a ferry, unless it is raining. We were able to stand with ease for the trip to... More

The boat ride was nice. Once on the island, there was a lot to see but not enough time to see everything. There is a museum on the island too.

My husband and I enjoyed our visit to Fort Sumter. The boat ride was nice and Fort Sumter was very interesting. Nice view of Charleston from Fort Sumter.

The first trip of the day allows you to view or be a part of the flag raising ceremony. Last trip allows to see the flag being taken down. A great part of history and also offers some stunning views of water and city.

Ferry to Ft Sumter should be on everyone's list visiting Charleston. Up close and personal view of National Park site. Civil War era history is narrated on ferry boat while you watch the dolphins in the harbor. Museums at either end offer more detail. Favorite thing was the musket demonstration.

Approx. 2 hour tour. 30 minutes trip by boat to and from Ft Sumter. One hour exploring the fort. Reasonable price for this tour.

We took the 30 minute boat ride from the visitor center to the fort. Had 1 hour at fort. Restrooms at fort not working due to hurricane, but you can use boat facilities at any time. Rangers give history talk and there is small museum. Very interesting.

Fort Sumter is an important piece of US history. It does sit out in the bay and its about a 30 minute ferry ride to the island. Get there early in order to buy tickets for an early time slot. The ferry is nice, relaxing, and they tell you the history of Fort Sumter while you ride out to the... More

I took a boat ride out to Fort Sumter. I learned a lot that I did not know about the history of the South. The fort itself is magnificent and I was amazed at how they are able to keep it so well maintained out on that island.
