Wish it was a cooler day. No air conditioning. It was a great place. Governor Sprague used to live here. Later, the Cranston Print Works plant manager got to live there. Wonderful antiques fill the rooms. I understand that they now hold wedding receptions here. The carriage house had some interesting carriages and sleighs. It is surrounded by old mill... More

We took a day trip from Newport to visit the General Sprague Mansion. It was definitely a very worthwhile drive. Our docents were a husband and wife team that truly understood the history of the house and the importance of historical preservation. The mansion itself was beautify kept and with few exceptions, accurate tot he period. We even had a chance... More

Beautiful, historic home. The staff was so accommodating and worked with my caterers. All my guests loved the atmosphere and the fact that was different from the usual wedding venue. Wonderful memories!

The house is even more of a destination now than ever as its grandeaur rises in gracious white and black shutters contrasted from the drab concrete and tacky hand drawn advertising signs of the middle-lower class world all around it. The place grasps it's former stateliness tightly and still retains a sense of history and charm from it's lovely lawn... More

I went there on my way to Providence and found that this SO CALLED GAR Civil War is nothing. There is no such thing. Big hoopla about it on the internet with all sort of information. What a bunch of crock. No one answered the door when I rang the front bell at the house. All I saw was a... More

This house is one of the few Civil War sites directly related to Govenor Sprague, Lincoln's War Governor of Rhode Island. Many people do not know that is was the financing of the A&W Sprague Textile Manufactures and Finishes that supplied the volunteers of the Rhode Island Regiment. The tour guides at the Mansion are pleasant.

One of the most surprising parts of the tour of the Sprague property is the carriage house. It is larger than is appears from the outside and inside the brick building is a collection of transportation methods from the days of the horse and buggy. It was great. The mansion is interesting. Bad thing is that there are no set... More
