This setting has so much to offer! There is a wonderful launch for kayaks with convenient drop off and parking. I have used it with my family to paddle out to the breach way. Also here is a wonderful park for kids and a small but spacious pond adjacent for the kids to enjoy as well. They love looking at... More

Meeting a friend for a nice winter walk. Drive in and go all the way to the end. There is a composting toilet in the parking lot. Chose from a long walk or a short walk or combine them for a longer walk. THe paths are all very well marked and well maintained and easy to walk along. Some goes... More

Ahh...Nini park, so very uniquely Rhode Island. This place is so many things wrapped into one, it's home to local observatories, a playground, tennis courts, a swimming hole, and vast beaten, vegetation overgrown roads that lead to nowhere. It's also the home to the Charlestown Seafood Festival, Rhythm and Roots, the circus', and a myriad of other festivals throughout the... More

We went there mid-day at the end of August and didn't last long, quickly understanding why there were virtually no other cars in the lots. Its an expansive attractive looking park but the swarming mosquitoes drove us quickly away. I suspect it is a great location during the cooler months; August was simply brutal, even with a coating of bug... More

We saw a deer on the trails. Great east hikes for childgren. Visitors center is perfect for children. Scavenger hunt was very fun.

BRING BUG REPELLENT WITH YOU, YOU WILL BE EATEN ALIVE IF YOU GO IN WITHOUT IT. This was a very short walk along an old air base along the shore. We didn't see too many birds but heard them. It was hot the day we were there so maybe they were in the trees staying cool. You will be eaten... More

This gorgeous 200+ acre park used to be an airfield where they trained pilots for night flight. George Bush Senior was stationed here, in fact. You can see remnants of the old airstrip in certain places, before you get to the natural beauty that is Ninigret. There are signs all over that describe the use of the land by the... More

We took two of the walks in the Refuge--the Foster Cove Trail, which is in the first parking area off Route 1 North. The second, in the main Ninigret recreational area (second right off the highway), was the Grassy Point Nature Trail. Both trails are flat and easy to walk. They are one mile each. The Foster Cove Trail is... More

My kids are 6 and 3 and they love the beach or pool, but as a parent Im always concern how far/deep into water they go...Well, this pond is perfect! no worries! is excellent for kids since no deep at all (even though theres lifeguard on site). Great for family/picnic time. There's also a big playground on site. Basketball hoops,... More
