If you're wandering through town, worth a quick look. But by no means make a special trip. More of a harbor services facility than a museum.

If you are a real boat buff, this is a great place although the America’s Cup part is falling out of date. Otherwise, it is a snooze. The family was at the heart of late 19th and early 20th century boat building and masters of steam powered and wooden boats. Technology and societal change pushed them out of business but their contribution to boating was immense.

If you love sailing and history, this museum is a must. So many wonderful ships. The docent, Jeff, was extremely knowledgeable and made the visit very worthwhile. Lots of exhibits. Great value too.

If you have interest in boats and/or sailing this is the place to see. A lot about the Americas Cup and a history of THE prime builder of yachts with real life examples of their craft over many years. Read The Temple to the Wind about both of these topics.

We went for the America’s Cup hall of fame. There’s boats, boat models, the people involved, history and so much more. The docent who grants entry was super knowledgeable and nice.

My best friend growing up used to own several small (14 foot) Herreshoffs which we sailed and raced. Outstanding collection which reflects he incredible craftsmanship and beauty of these vessels.

Been there many times over 35 years in my life, being from the East Bay and watching America's cup in Newport when we had it! I used to live here two hundred yards away in this photo there seems to be a double masted antique yacht and an outdoor event party going on so I will be in the area but I highly recommend the sailing heritage and this fabulous museum for all to see. Attended a few upscale parties with the herreshoff family over the years, saying hi to Maggie..

Historical boats. My husband enjoyed being able to take his shoes off and explore the interior of several boats.
Went during December so not crowded at all.

Guide was very knowledgeable but spoke to long and group left one by one. The museum itself is beautiful and well organized

If you are a fan of the America's Cup, or have a love for sailing and all things Herreshoff, this is a must-see. Companions not similarly-afflicted should be left home, so you can spend as much time as you like.

How many floors are there to this museum? Is there an Elevator? What is located on the second floor? Are most of the exhibits on the first floor?
Hello, The museum has two levels. Unfortunately there is no elevator. On the first level there is the America's Cup, the timeline wall, and the entire hall of boats. On the second floor is the model room and Aria gallery which houses scale models of various vessels, and photographs of the Herreshoff Family. I hope that you will come visit, we have lectures and events all summer long!
