If you wish to see Berks County in one place, come here. They show everything about the county from past to present day.

Nice local history center on Centre Avenue in Reading. They offer very reasonable membership and interesting weekend programs. Great library too for researching local history. Friendly and helpful staff

I signed up for a basket weaving class and was pleasantly surprised I made a very nice basket! I loved the history center and gift shop!

It looks more like a furniture store than a history center. I can see the same furniture at the Kutztown Market. It does not offer a cohesive, flowing exhibit and you will not really get a good history lesson. A lot of the stuff exhibited is not labeled with a description so it leaves you wondering about the significance of some of the items. Kids will quickly get bored. Not worth the trip or entrance fee and its probably best to avoid the crime ridden city of Reading.

If you like history you will be very happy here. So nice to have this little museum in the heart of the Historic District. Close to restaurants and downtown.

If there's any proof that Berks County is more interesting than you think, this place is your Shangri-la. There's lots of interesting stuff there.

You've gotta take your kids or grand kids to the Society.
Parking out front or along the perimeter is easy.
Downstairs, there's a playroom for kids.
I do wish they offered more docent guided tours. There's so much there that needs a narrative to explain its importance.

What a very pleasant surprise, well worth the one hour drive from our address. Very welcoming greeting, rooms well laid out, covering the local history from Native Americans to more recent times. A very broad and fine collection of Pennsylvania Dutch and other local antique furniture, art, artifacts, etc., showing early every day life in town and the surrounding area. Easy parking, very reasonable entry fees, with a nice gift shop, and no crowds on our afternoon there.

The experts really knew their content. It was interesting to learn how these old paintings and documents we see in our area came to be here. We live in this area so want to know about our history.

The main floor is rotating exhibits. They're really well done. The upstairs has relics from Reading's past. There's also a model of how RDG used to look when it was founded. Downstairs is super cool. They have the original Duryea car, train cars, coach wagon. Really neat. Plus there's a hands on activity center for kids.
