Hi! We're having a great time at Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and the only thing missing is you. MAKESHOP, our tinkering space, has real tools and materials such as wood, sewing machines, hammers, nails, a loom, animation station and more. Jump right in, that circuit isn't going to build itself! The Art Studio is calling for your creative energy to design and ink a silkscreen, paint, sculpt clay and create something unique alongside the many working artists who visit. Young ones, you are royalty in the Nursery, a space filled with colors, shapes and textures perfect for your growing minds and bodies. The Attic, Garage and Waterplay (because it's just not fun until your underwear is soaked) round out the permanent exhibits. But not so fast. From marching bands, slam poets and cultural traditions to letters that fall from the ceiling and a crawling maze made out of packing tape, our temporary exhibits, performers, programs, artists-in-residence and artwork are particularly awesome too. If we don't hear the protests of departing kids at the end of each day, we're not doing our jobs right.

We visited with a 3 and 5 year old. It's not the largest children's museum, but it may be the best. We were there at 10 am, which is a good idea; it gets more crowded. We started in the art room, which is superb. I've been in other museums that offer the same activities, but not as well done... More

Visited with our 1-1/2 and 3 year old. There is something to do for every age child. We were there for about 3 hours without them getting bored. Small cafeteria on main floor. The third floor is all water related activities - large aprons are provided but might want to bring flip-flops.

The museum decided to be closed until noon today due to the marathon. Parents are traveling planned and arrived at a paper sign on the door. This is unprofessional and bad business. Two hours early to a museum with children and no place to go.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience you and your family experienced upon arrival to the Children's Museum yesterday. While we did our best to regularly post the news of the late opening on the Museum's social media platforms as well as our web Calendar, we also are aware of the many other postings these items compete with. This was our first trip to the children's museum with our kids (ages 4, 6, and 8). This is a great age range to visit the museum too. We were here on a Friday afternoon. There are 3 floors to the museum. We started at the top floor, which is the water play area. We had no clue it involved... More

We visited on a monday with two kids around 2.5 years old. They seemed to have a blast! The parents had fun too helping the kids discover things and seeing them have fun. The current measurement exhibit was a lot of fun and the kids loved the "garage" exhibit. We were slightly confused because we thought the "nursery" would be... More

This is an interesting place for kids assuming they are: 1. Old enough to walk easily and 2. Do not still put things in their mouths. My girls are almost 1. There was a "nursery" area, but everything really involved using their hands or being able to stand. It contains a lot of choking hazards this why I say old... More

Our family went to the museum on a Saturday afternoon. We were first time visitors and everyone else there were regulars and using the museum as a gathering place. The patrons were rude to us as their children ran wild as they played on their iphones. The museum was nice but the people in it weren't. Maybe we picked a... More

We're sorry you encountered negative interactions with the Museum's other patrons on your very first visit. While rudeness is definitely not typical of Children's Museum Members, distracted use of digital devices among adults is a matter the Museum takes seriously and is currently addressing. We very much appreciate your feedback! More

If you child is between four and ten, make sure that you plan a visit. All hands(mostly feet) on things to do. The children never have a bored moment. Plenty of seat for tired parents and separate child-friendly areas.. If you go with a group, be sure to get a guide. Shout out to Matt, he was great!!!

We traveled to many museums with our children, who are now 11 and 14, and this was the best museum for them without question when they were 3-10.
