The Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery, established in 1861, is the first commercial pretzel bakery in America. As of August 2007, the site is under new ownership. The bakery and store have been completely renovated and are now operated once again by the Sturgis family. Visitors can tour the original pretzel bakery, see soft pretzels being made by hand, and find pretzels baked by the oldest pretzel baking family in the United States.

The tour of the old bakery is fun with a "hands on" demo of pretzel making. The staff is nice and helpful. The soft fresh preztel are delicious and the shop is full of goodies. Worth the detour.

Good for all ages. Hubby and I had fun rolling a trial pretzel while the guide explained the history of the business. Everyone in your group would have fun and enjoy the short tour.

Cute shop where you can take a tour of the factory and learn about pretzel making. The variety of products is a bit lacking, but worth a visit if you're shopping on Main St.

My younger kids and I really enjoyed the tour - from hands-on learning how to twist our own "pretzels", to learning about the whole pretzel-making process and history. Informative tour, yummy hard and soft pretzel samples, cute gift shop with reasonable prices, & friendly staff...More

Stopped here for fresh pretzels. Interesting and very good warm pretzels. Kids enjoyed it. They have been in business since 1861.

They stopped including the "make your own pretzel" in the Sturgis tour which is a shame. The tour itself is blah. They don't even make pretzels in this building anymore. On the plus side, the staff are super friendly and the gift shop has some...More

We enjoyed learning about the happenstance discovery of the hard pretzel. We had a nice tour of the original bakery and learned how pretzels were made back in the day. Had a chance to twist our own dough which was fun....but we learned that modern...More
