The Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery, established in 1861, is the first commercial pretzel bakery in America. As of August 2007, the site is under new ownership. The bakery and store have been completely renovated and are now operated once again by the Sturgis family. Visitors can tour the original pretzel bakery, see soft pretzels being made by hand, and find pretzels baked by the oldest pretzel baking family in the United States.

Everyday, you learn something new and today it was about the history of pretzels. A 25 minute tour gave us the history of pretzels and of the Sturgis business. We even learned how to twist a pretzel. You can buy fresh soft pretzels or a variety of hard pretzels or memorabilia in their small store. The staff is knowledgeable and... More

So much fun to enter this building built in 1784, to take a tour of the factory, twist your own pretzel, or buy bags of pretzels, local candies, and fun t-shirts. You can buy two soft pretzels for less than $2!!! And when you are done, you can walk right out onto Main Street in the 'coolest little town" in... More

My mom and I loved learning the history of the pretzel and twisting our own. It's basically play dough so you can't eat your masterpiece. However for $1 you can buy pretzels hot from the oven and they are well worth it!

Great tour and the history of pretzels is fascinating. Not going to share don't want to spoil the story. Great tour to take while visiting Lititz. Not expensive and you get to make and taste some pretzels.

Went with family from Lancaster PA and had a great time! Great tour and history lesson. While we were waiting for our tour we ate fresh hot soft pretzels right from the oven . We learned how to make pretzels and received small bag of pretzels after tour.

This trip was a revisit to a place went to with my cousins about forty years ago when I was a teenager. It's still fun to go and learn how to twist a pretzel and how/why the pretzel was invented.

A bit of a distance from other shops on Main Street. Didn't take the tour but checked out the pictures and store. Store is very small and hard to look around when the line forms. Youth cashier, okay customer service but very robotic speech. Long wait for pretzels, zero communication from baker's to register. Pretzels warm but just okay.

This was the best $6 I've ever spent. I took my 7 year old son and he loved learning how to make a pretzel. You even get a free bag of pretzels at the end.

This was a great little tour to take. Doesn't last more than 45 minutes, so it won't take all your time - but very informative, fun, and the staff is very friendly. You get a real glimpse into how thing were done 100 yrs ago. Also get to roll your own sift pretzel - it's a blast for all ages.
