The Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery, established in 1861, is the first commercial pretzel bakery in America. As of August 2007, the site is under new ownership. The bakery and store have been completely renovated and are now operated once again by the Sturgis family. Visitors can tour the original pretzel bakery, see soft pretzels being made by hand, and find pretzels baked by the oldest pretzel baking family in the United States.

We love taking the tour and always leave with a few bags of little cheeser pretzels. We love hearing the story of how they came up with the idea of hard pretzels and all of the hard work the family went through to keep it going! I highly recommend stopping in and taking the tour!

I always like to know how things were or are made and this was great for that. We all got the history of pretzels and learned to twist them ourselves. The docent was super enthusiastic and informative. I think we all enjoyed this more than we expected to do.

We stopped by for a quick tour before heading home. A 30 minute tour for $3.50 each was perfect in my mind. We learned some history about the family and factory and got to play with dough, twisting into a pretzel. You don't actually make your own pretzel, you have to leave the dough, but it is hands on and... More

Tour is very nice and informative. Pretzels are great. Loves the fresh baked pretzels you can buy here. There hard pretzels are very good and prices are very affordable. Will stop back next time we are in the area.

You get a tour of the original pretzel factory with a very knowledgeable guide who. We actually got a piece of dough and rolled our own pretzels so we could experience how pretzel making was done in the past. There is a little shop at there also where you can purchase souvenirs and hard pretzels and soft pretzels which are... More

We visited there and took the tour. We learned a lot of history and how the Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery was one of the first Pretzel factories in America. The tour was well worth the $3.50 price tag. Highly recommend if you like small town history.

Nice staff. We came on a day when they had several tours already book so we could not take the tour, but the manager gave us free pretzel. We also bought cinnamon pretzels and cheese ones too. Nice place and staff!

Was not sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. The young man giving the tour was very knowledgeable and courteous. You saw how they made pretzels in the old days and even gave it a try yourself. The narrative made it come alive and in the end you get a free small bag of pretzels. More of a museum... More

Sturgis Pretzel Bakery in Lititz is a Museum. Not an operating bakery tour. It is a great history lesson in how Julius turned hard pretzels into a business. The tour takes you into his bakery and introduces you to the process of preparing the dough and the baking process. The great part is you get a hands-on lesson of "Twisting"... More

Visited with family who enjoyed learning how to make pretzels as well as the history behind the process. Ages ranged from 2, 20's up to 50 with all having a fun time. Well worth a brief stop while checking out Lititz.
