Excellent Educational Opportunity for Small Children
Aug 2019
I agree with Dropsoj that the owner makes this visit so special, especially if you have small children along.

This is in a non descriptive building that has been added onto several times and the butterfly room is small. However the owner does a presentation with a play using the children to help them understand the importance of butterflies to the environment.

Great place to visit when in season.

Small but great owner
Aug 2019
The butterfly room is very small here however the owner is the reason to make the visit. She is very passionate and knowledgeable about the butterflies and frogs that they have. Lots of parking space is available here.

Wonderful to hear that your experience was a good one. 3 can be tricky in the flight room / sometimes wonderful, sometimes a bit unsettling but a great introduction on how to honor and appreciate natures's little wonders . Thanks for visiting and taking the time to write this review. Please visit us again next year . The public season will start on Saturday June 6th .

Great place to see
Aug 2019
This place is very educational. They have a room where they go into detail on the birth of the butterfly. The room where the butterflies are kept is small but nice. All the things they have for sale is very reasonable. The admission price is very reasonable for a family. This is a must see adventure,

A Must See Attraction While in Jim Thorpe, PA Amazing!
Aug 2019
Immediately upon arrival, I knew that we were going to be in for a treat. Outside this warm and welcoming sanctuary is a garden filled with many plants creatively installed to attract butterflies. I was certainly not disappointed to discover many varieties of butterflies landing on the plants outside and I hadn't even entered yet.

Meeting Michele and her staff was another bright spot. Their passion and knowledge of butterflies is palpable in every moment of your visit. It doesn't matter your age, your reason for visiting, you are welcome here! There are gifts for every age and every interest. You can learn literally everything there is to know about butterflies, see them, touch them, interact with them and most certainly learn about them. Drop in for a presentation about learning the difference between moths and butterflies and stay for a short film that shows the fascination migration patterns of the monarch. As a butterfly enthusiast, I left with far more knowledge than I realized. There are also poison dart frogs to see and even an axolotl (now extinct in the wild I learned) on site as well. Much to see and learn here.

The gift shop is fully stocked with treats for nature lovers of all ages. There are activity rooms for children and the best treat of all is the live butterfly room. Two very knowledgeable young ladies taught me all I ever could about these delicate and beautiful creatures. Too many landed on me to count and I can't wait to go back.

My wife and I stopped here while visiting Jim Thorpe for her birthday. We have visited a butterfly sanctuary by our house a few times, the owner who waited on us knew our place even though it was about 3 hours away. The prices are definitely fair and they run a lot of specials. Our day (a Friday) was grandparents day, bring a grandkid and get in for free. When my wife mentioned it was her birthday, we got in with a discount. It is definitely directed towards kids but we still had a great time even though we are 2 older adults. We sat through the demonstration/performance about a reptile and then another about butterflies. Both were targeting kids (about a dozen there) but the adults (also about a dozen) had a great time and learned a lot. After that we went into the area with the butterflies. That part is a little small. I think it would be overwhelming if you had about 10 people at a time but with that said it was still great to see. There are a lot of very dedicated and knowledgeable staff. Any questions were answered and they seemed so anxious to share their love of butterflies. Overall it is well worth a visit, the high point of our trip and we did the jail tour, the mansion tour and the train ride.

Beautiful Experience
Jul 2019 • Family
My husband and I took our friends children ages 7 & 10. They really liked it because they could take a sponge with nectar and see the butterflies up close. If the sponge was free they could coax one onto the sponge. Seems like that couldn't be exciting but it was for the children.
We were treated to a demo by Lisa who was very knowledgeable. My husband was volunteered by our young friends to become a butterfly. Lisa started adding appendages explaining the function of each part. So fun and we all learned a lot.
If you are reading this review please do not miss this opportunity for yourself or family. They close before Labor Day so hurry.

Butterflies
Jul 2019 • Family
Open to the public for only a few months a year, this place is definitely worth a trip. They have an educational instruction as well as the flight room and a gift shop. The butterflies are everywhere, so if you’re going with little ones, remember they land on the floors and to watch your step!
