If you have had your cataracts fixed then visit the grave of Fred Hollows in Bourke's graveyard. Fred pioneered the simple, yet groundbreaking method which has restored sight to countless people all over the world, preventing certain blindness.

Well worth a visit. An outback cemetery at its best. Contains Fred Hollows' grave with large memorial stone and minimal detail carved into the stone. Not to be missed is the pet cemetery at the far end of the general cemetery (separate)!

Older cemetery can be quite serene to wander through. Some impressive grave stones dating back to the 1800’s. Notable resident is Fred Hollows. A unique statue and grave stone for a man who gave so much to the less fortunate.

This was an interesting cemetery to wander around and I found it quite emotional seeing the ages of those who had died in Bourke a century or so back. Great to see Fred’s resting place too.

We spent a wonderful few hours walking through the cemetery visiting the graves of family members. The graves were well kept even though it was extremely dry from drought.

If you are interested in history, a walk around the Bourke cemetery is a must. I find the Fred Hollows information board very interesting. A remarkable man.
