Overview
More
The ancient petroglyph rock art is located within Gundabooka National Park 20 kms off Kidman Way on sandy dirty track that is marked by National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) signs to the Mulgowan carpark & picnic site. From here a marked NPWS path leads up & into the dry Mulareenya creek where the Yapa rock art can be found under the ledge. The NPWS have constructed walking ledges & have caged off the actual petroglyphs.

This is a hard one to rate. Having seen excellent Aboriginal Rock Art in Kakadu, was underwhelmed by Mulgowan. Firstly details on the drive in. If only doing this site, and travelling from Bourke, you will spend more time in the car driving than you...More

About 75 kms from Bourke. The last 25-30kms is dirt road suitable for four wheel drive. Two wheel drive could do the road but would be considerably slower as road is good in places but can be rocky and corrugated. Art was about 1.5 km...More

The rock art is accessed from Mitchell Highway, about 50 km south of Bourke. There is about 25 km of good unsealed road - we had no difficulty with our medium size AWD SUV - I think normal sedans would have little difficulty in dry...More

Parks have put in a very good walking track to the site. Not a long walk but very rewarding. Spring flowers were all coming through. Good picnic and other facilities.

We went here on a beautiful sunny Winters day. It was also great for me as it was my first red dirt road, which I had been dying to drive on. The road was very good, very few bumps but I think it had been...More

This is an easy day trip from Bourke, well signposted walking trails in the park and very good rock art. Quite a few campers in the park. We didn't choose that option, having stayed beforehand at Trilby Station near Louth, an excellent farmstay on the...More
