Brilliant museum where a guide by Sue is a must, her local, historical, and expert knowledge of the hat industry makes this a wonderful experience. Putting Stockport on the map!

This is a free museum if you just want to look round but you can book a tour. There was one going on while we were there and it sounded interesting. Good interactive areas for kids and unlike some museums there are several places to rest. Plenty of toilets too

we were a big group of adults and kids who needed a place to spend a few hours on a drizzly, freezing cold day. we paid an entrance fee and had a tour of the facility which once was a very large hat factory. our guide explained to us how hats were made before the industrial revolution- by hand. he... Our young (4 and 6) children enjoyed our visit to this museum. There was a fun dressing up area with all sorts of different hats to try on that kept them entertained for ages. Brilliant that it is free too.

We loved this place. The tour guide was lovely and very informative. Learnt a lot and the kids liked trying on the old hats and listening to the 'old people' on the TV. Well worth a visit

I was there just before 10am so managed to get there before any school trips arrived. Nick was my tour guide and he was brilliant. Really brought the place to life with his own families history in hat making and his obvious interest and passion in the amazing engineering used to both make the hat blocks and hats. I visited... Hat exhibits to see, lots of machinery and workshops, display boards and audio-visual accounts. There used to be a cafe but unfortunately has closed. The small shop sells good gifts, including real quality hats/caps.
