We had a very friendly welcome to the museum, and the two ladies on duty were very informative. The msueum itself gives a glimpse into the horror of the Blitz without overfacing young children. The 6 year old understood what was going on, whereas the 2 year old just enjoyed going through tunnels. Well worth a fiver each for adults,... More

This site provides a different take on air raid shelters, being extensive tunnels carved out under Stockport's town. An audio tour is a must, but the latter part of the visit has several boards providing information not often seen at other world war displays which brings the story to life. Certainly a good place to visit for adults and children.

This attraction may be of some interest to the older generation who remember their history and the 'War'. If the Council could engage someone with imagination to really transform this place into a real 'human experience' then it would be worthwhile. As it is a few rusty old beds and long bleak tunnels is all there is to offer. The... More

Fantastic experience to explore the shelter which is located across the road from the shopping centre and car park. Once inside you receive an audio receiver from the friendly staff which enables you during the walk around to listen to actual accounts of events during WWII. The tunnels are a good height, well lit, flat ground and good ventilation, there... More

Lived around area for years and didn't visit till recently. Was very impressed and loved the walk round. Anyone with interest of times gone by would enjoy this visit. Mum was with us and said she gets abit claustrophobic at times underground and small spaces..but she even enjoyed the trip round with us too. Definitely an eye opener.

There can't be any other place like tihis. Carved out of red sandstone, vast warren of cave/tunnels, which at the height of WWII saved thousands from German bombs. Train-loads came from Manchester to shelter. Complete with toilets, kitchens etc. Great for kids, very good for adults. Ask for a guided tour.

This was my first visit but my husband has been a few tims before. A fascinating insight into this part of history. There is a audio guide but on a other occasions a live guide has provided entertaining insights for other guests. Well worth a visit.
