Located in the very heart of Oldham, the Coliseum Theatre is venerable building with a history stretching back to 1885.We serve a vibrant cross section of the community with an award winning selection of comedy, drama & traditional panto.

The history of Oldham Coliseum Theatre spans a period of 128 years making it one of the oldest theatres in Britain still operating today. The theatre is also widely considered as the true home of traditional pantomime and produces a new production each year attracting delighted audiences of over 35,000.

The Coliseum Theatre dates back to 1885 when it began life as the Grand American Circus and Hippodrome. Situated in the heart of Oldham and surrounded by almost a dozen other theatres, almost 125 years later, the award winning Coliseum is the only surviving theatre in the town.

The Coliseum stage has seen countless performers over the years from comedy greats Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel to fledgling movie stars such as Ralph Fiennes and Minnie Driver. Many of the stars of Manchester staple Coronation Street have also cut their teeth treading the boards at the Coliseum.

Oldham Coliseum Theatre is one of the most established and well attended venues in the North West where it produces eight in-house shows each year. It is also operates as a receiving house for touring productions, visiting companies and special one-night events.

The Coliseum as we know it today has recently undergone a £1.5M facelift and renovation with improved seating, heating and front of house facilities bringing the venue up-to-date with modern theatre-goers' demands.

The auditorium has a capacity of 524 seats, in addition the theatre has a studio space with a more intimate capacity of 50 seats. The inhouse and touring productions seen on the main stage each year offer a balanced programme of drama, comedy, musical, new writing and the annual pantomime.

We've been to the Oldham Coliseum no a number of occasions now and every visit has been a pleasure. On the last occasion I'd managed to book two events on the same evening. I thought that I was going to have to choose between the two but one quick phone call and thanks to the very helpful man in the... More

Oldham Coliseum has produced many stars over the years and rightly so. It is a superb little theatre which should be getting a new Oldham home soon. The productions are second to none and the panto's are famous, for children but adults can enjoy them too. A truly family entertainment venue. The only reason I have given this four rather... More

Thanks so much Karen for taking the time to review our theatre. Fingers crossed on a new home for the theatre! We're very fond of our building but it's getting a bit worn and tired. We'd also love to be closer to other attractions like Gallery Oldham, as well as the Library and the proposed Arts and Heritage Centre. We... More

The Coliseum Theatre has to be the jewel in Oldhams crown. A lovely cozy space for some of the best shows in the North West. Its seasonal shows are varied and season tickets are reasonably priced and if purchased come with free parking in the car park just around the corner. It annually provides the best Christmas pantomime for families... More

We saw a production of Brassed Off with Oldham (Lees) Brass Band in support. The performance was fantastic. The acting was very professional and of a very high quality, the band was superb and the venue was great - intimate, comfortable and our seats in the circle had great views of the full stage. Would highly recommend this theatre.
