We checked out the ice mine on several sites and decided to pack up the family and go. We drove for almost an hour and when we arrived, found out it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Just our luck it was a Tuesday, so it was a wasted trip. Everything in that area is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so plan accordingly. We didn’t see the days of operation anywhere on sites we had checked, so that was annoying.

Personally, I think the story of the mine was better than the mine itself. The young man that took us to the “hole with ice in it” (yeah, that’s all it was), was sweet & knowledgeable but the place is a bust! I guess you can compare it to the “largest ball of yarn” on Route 66.

The Coudersport Ice Mine is not a destination in itself. If you are in the area, stop by, as it only takes 30 minutes. I found it enjoyable as an interesting geological feature that would be easily missed.

Very cool geologic anomaly to check out. Easy on and off from the main road. The shop manager and the young man tour guide were both super friendly, and our guide was a great storyteller and great question answerer. Definitely worth $5 to take a look inside and hear the story.

What a cool place with an interesting story! Definitely worth the stop. It's a fairly quick tour so plan on a 30 min stop at most if it's not busy. That will give you time to tour the mine and the shop.

Put this on your fun and unusual places to stop list! This will not take more than an hour of your time, but it was fascinating to see the ice on a hot August day! They do a good job of explaining the history of the ice phenomenon and you can ask as many questions as you like. Ok tourists, here is some stuff you need to know. The parking lot is TINY!! From town you have to make a sharp 90 degree right turn to go up the hill. Luckily since the driveway comes up fast, there is a turn around on the left side of the road to circle around and to give you a better angle to get up the hill. It is a very narrow road and if there is no parking near the attraction because the 8 or so spots are taken, you will HAVE TO BACK DOWN THE HILL, or have patience doing a 20 point turn. Absolutely do not think of bringing a camper or any town-behind with you! There is not much walking, the building to pay is also the little gift shop and to the left is the door/entrance to let you in to see the ice hole when your tour guide let’s you in. No worry about steps or a lot of walking! This quirky little gem of a place was worth the stop and is a great addition to your Coudersport travels!

I was truly amazed by this phenomenon! I did not expect to see so much ice. For $5.00 it is worth a look.

What a neat and unique spot to visit! Some really nice items in the gift shop too. Worth the trip. Short time to take it all in.

It is a very small attraction and will literally only take 10 minutes at most… but we enjoyed going to see the ice!! It’s bizarre how it comes to be .. it’s a natural wonder and we are happy we can say we saw it!!
