Nice easy terrain with views to the river. We actually did the old salmon river trail portion of this. You need a national access pass to use the trail because it's in a national forest. Lots of cool opportunities to talk about moss on trees, bugs, old growth forests, and just all around fun. We found a sandy beach and... More

This trail was about 5 miles from the resort we stayed in and perfect for our first hike of our trip. Take Hwy 26 to Salmon Rd for 3 mi. The trail head is clearly marked. It's relatively flat the entire way after your initial climb from the parking lot. The river view is so beautiful and shady the entire... More

Walk along the river along a well tended trail. Jump in the river at a number of spots and check out the amazing tree canopy. Beautiful gentle hike.

I'm not a great hiker, but this trail was somewhat easy. I can't remember what trail head number we went to, but it was just fine--path clean and easy to walk.

I hiked this trail and other at the Wildwood Rec Area. It was so beautiful. We had a nice picnic on the river, but unfortunately you can't camp here. Day use only. However, this is a great campground nearby in the same forest. It is equally beautiful and called Green Canyon Campground. There is also hiking here, but it was... More

Trail head was about 5 miles from Whispering Woods Resort where we stayed for a week. Had very nice, cool weather for July so our afternoon hike was great. Lots of trees, so even if it were sunny there would be a lot of shade, but due to the cloud cover and misty drizzle, we were fine and really never... More

The Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness includes the Salmon River Trailhead (trail), which is accessed via an old logging road. The trail is open year-round. For treehuggers like me, it's paradise. The path takes visitors through old growth forests above the beautiful Salmon River. People who visit this area know it's unique--a protected habitat for Coho and other salmon. Fishing is catch and... More

This trail was a fairly easy hike with beautiful scenery. We were amazed at the variety of fauna that we saw.

The Salmon River Trail through Huckleberry Wilderness to the overlook was a very scenic and easy hike. River access is scattered throughout the trail, which is great if you are hiking with dogs that like to take a dip. While there were several people on the trail on the 4th of July, it was never crowded and often would go... More

Lower trail follows Salmon River from USFS boundary to Green Canyon Campground. Upper trail follows Salmon River almost 20 miles. Some exposure to non-fenced cliffs at a series of waterfalls about five miles on upper trail. Beautiful, but can be dangerous.
