Beautiful scenery at the Dalles

We stopped here for the views of the river and the beauty of the gorge. The town is very walking friendly. Full of history and there was a Thai restaurant that was fantastic!

The Dalles is a great community, right on the Columbia River. This is where Oregon Trail travelers had to choose between the river and the log road over Mt. Hood. The Dalles hasn't been overrun with trendy nonsense - it's a real place with real people, some great places (a fantastic bookstore, a wonderful museum, some decent places to eat)... More

Well worth a visit to see the murals and learn about the history of this town which was so important to the development of the area.

Instead of blowing right by, it is worth stopping and exploring The Dalles. Two wonderful Museums, The Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center and Fort Dalles, some unique and friendly downtown shops and some very good restaurants. It also has Oregon's oldest bookstore. Take in a wine tasting and a drive to the park above town, where you can take in fantastic... More

The Dalles is the kind of place that makes you feel comfortable. Once you explore the town and meet a few of it's people, you become more convinced that it is a place in which you would like to live. The people are all so friendly and helpful, it is like asomeone took a hunk of "middle America" and deposited... More

Beautiful area. Easy to travel and still take in the beautiful sights in the area. Roads are good to travel and traffic wasn't too bad for the weekend

The Columbia Gorge River area from Portland to The Dalles is a great drive. The river has several waterfalls to stop and look at, along with several turn outs to view Washington State across the river. I suggest you take this drive and look at the mighty handywork that God has made for this area.

We couldn't find much to do in this sleepy little town, so we went to the Chamber of Commerce and they were so uninformed. We said we heard about a scenic highway along the Columbia River Gorge and asked where it was. They told us that we could get the best view from main Highway 84 and didn't know about... More

You can walk the entire business district in about an hour. There were a number of antique stores that we were interested, but in my opinion were way over priced.
