There’s no better place! The local elevation, pitch dark surrounding and crystal clear air make it perfect for star gazing. You won’t be lining up for one telescope. The Oregon Observatory is the largest astronomical viewing facility in the United States. Feast your eyes on far away galaxies. Recognize the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter. Witness a meteor shower. Get a glimpse of globular clusters, nebula and deep space binary stars.

Between Tuesday and Sunday, the observatory opens from 9-11pm for star gazing and telescope observation. I saw more stars and planets than I have ever seen. Our kids aged 10 and 8 were amazed and loved spotting satellites, shooting stars and seeing Saturn's rings. As a non profit, they rely upon the entrance fees and donations so I'd urge anyone... Living in a big city suburb, it was wonderful to see what the sky really looks like. The staff at the Observatory were great, they really wanted everyone to appreciate the gorgeous skies from over 10 different telescopes, focused on different parts of the sky.

The temperature was still freezing when we came Easter weekend but the skies were totally clear which made for awesome observing! The guides are super helpful especially with small children. Very cool experience.

A fun event to do with kids. We all enjoyed seeing the beautiful night sky, learning about stars and planets and using a variety of telescopes. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. They permit time before/after the presentation to roam around and explore. Each season/night offers different viewing options. Our 6 year old loved it. Recommend the Sunriver Nature Center before... The observatory is a great educator and experience for adults and children. The staff are excellent at holding the attention of all ages and exposing the wonders of the universe to all. There is a reason this is the number one attraction in Sunriver!!! A must see...

They had young people at each telescope, full of interesting information about what you were seeing. Even saw the space station go by. Well organized, glow bracelets and glow name tags helped without distracting. Gorgeous night sky. Worth the $10 admittance cost. Only problem? A few too many mosquitos, but that's not their fault :)

Super fun experience to go to the Observatory! Sunriver has certain laws in place that limit light pollution and the night was very clear. Saw several planets and galaxies through telescopes and we were very impressed.

Took the entire family and had a great experience. The staff is incredible - making it a fun experience for all ages. We had all ages - 2, 9, 10 and adults and everyone had fun. We were able to all look at the telescopes and see the planets, stars, etc. We were worried about the 2 year old moving... More

We went on a Tuesday at 9pm (they're closed on Mondays) after a bunch of cloudy days, so it was very crowded. Tip: ticket sales are in the Nature Center, so go there first! We were glad we could walk from our rental, as the parking lot was packed. They have lots of telescopes and experts around to guide you... More
