I go here because it's a Pokémon Go nest periodically. There's a slough or pond that people fish in. There are quite a few picnic areas. You can hear traffic from I-5 which is about 100 yards away. The parking lot is 75% potholes. There are often old RVs parked around which makes it seem like you're at a run-down RV park. The disc golf course looks pretty nice. There aren't many of those in Salem. It's close to the parking in case you worry about your car when it's parked there, you can see it from the entire course.

There are lots of fish to be caught, plenty of grass and places to picnic, its just not kept up as well as it used to be.

Finding dog parts for them to run free with little worry is not well known. This one has voth a large dog fenced area and a small dog fenced area. Its grass, has a picnicking table and no trees but, its a start.
When you first come into the park its on your left side.

I took my grandson to go fishing at this once beautiful park today. As we entered the area, we were immediately overwhelmed by the homeless camps, and I counted over 30 vehicles full of garbage and people. The city has let this park go to hell. I have been to third world countries that show more pride in their communities. This area needs to be cleared out and completely gutted. Do our city officials know or care about anything? What a waste of tax dollars. Please do not go here. It will make you sick. Why are the cities just giving these areas to the homeless?? Salem has gone to hell!! Really feel sorry for the children.

There are many interesting people who I have met down at the Cascades Gateway Park in Salem Oregon. I have met alot of them. The people there is why I still go there and stay for days on end. I have not had anything terrible happen to me for being down there. Maybe I am crazy say that if you wish but I feel totally safe walking around anytime of the day or night alone. It's been a AMAZING EXPERIENCE with the people and time I've been there and I plan to stay there for a good time longer. I took the time to get to know everyone I come in contact with. If only others wouldn't be so afraid. Many people are not afraid and many people take their children to the park. I see families alot. I've never been scared to do what I need to and the people are very helpful.

Salem is a city blessed with many parks for its size, and they are extremely varied in size and character. Cascades Gateway, located on the eastern edge of the city, is almost flush up against busy Interstate 5, but you would never know it. The park, though not overly large, provides ample green space, walking trails, and -- best of all -- a small pond stocked with trout. It is a wonderful place to sit or walk peacefully, watch the ducks and geese, and, if you wish, try your luck with the fishing pole. Ample parking.

There was a group of ducks that were picking on one poor duck, they were all biting him and ripping his feathers out and I tried to stop them for a good 15 minutes and I ended up running out of breathe ...I couldn't save him. 😭😭😭😡😡🤬🤬

If you like to fish, you will find others at the lake to help you enjoy this activity. The grounds are a fun playground for the kids to runaround if you plan your family get-to-gether at the lake. It is right in town and if you forget something at the store, Walmart is within 2 miles.

All of the pot holes are gone. Yes there are some people who are down and out, but they're just trying to get by. I wish they would open it up, it's a good park, just needs funds and visitors.

This place used to be a great place to take your kids fishing or to the playground and boy has that changed... Shame on you city of salem for allowing this place to become dangerous and not to mention a disgusting mess.. i was there a week ago to enjoy ank afternoon of fishing and turned back.. Is this how our tax dollars are spent? I spoke to a city worker and a police officer that was there for the safety of the city workers and ask them when this was going to be cleaned up cause it was horrible to see... The both of them basically threw there hands up and said they were just as disgusted as I... Its time city of salem to get this mess cleaned up and take care of our parks...
