In the hustle and bustle of our daily life I think most of us would like to get away once in a while. But where to go? Mount Angel Abbey has been a favorite destination for us on many occasions. Sometimes it is just for a walk through the lovely grounds with splendid vistas looking towards the Coastal Range. At... More

The Alvar Aalto designed library is breathtaking and the Abbey's grounds are lovely. We also visited during the recent 3-day Bach Festival. During the Festival, the monks were incredibly friendly and talkative so we asked lots of questions about everything we ever wanted to know about monks.

This is a wonderful place to spend a quiet afternoon. Great views (when the weather allows), wonderful church, super little museum and one of the best libraries in the state. The coffee shop and book store have snacks. Check the website for events (organ recitals are especially cool). I recommend investigating the guesthouse for a private retreat.

I went up to Mount Angel to visit family and stopped off at the Abbey. Highly recommend walking the stations of the cross. Beautiful walk up the mountain and the stations are in German. The views from the abbey are breathtaking on a clear day. Sehr schön!

If you are looking for a peaceful spot in your busy life .. this is it.. located just outside Mt Angel Oregon on top of a big mount with a commanding view of the surrounding valley ... the stations are in German/Swiss which adds to the atmosphere..

Looking at the other reviews - I didn't see one that mentioned the Stations of the Cross walk. This starts at the bottom of the hill - and winds its way up the hill towards the Abbey at the top. It is a beautiful and calming experience, with a stop at each of the Stations of the Cross along the... More

Mount Angel Abby is a peaceful place with beautiful Abby church, a quirky and interesting little museum, a row of impressive sequoias and an outdoor stations of the cross. We loved walking the stations especially.

As you ascend the road leading up from the town of Mt. Angel to the hilltop grounds of Mount Angel Abbey and Seminary, you leave one world behind and enter another. In fact, although you can certainly drive and park up there, the BEST way to experience this transition is to leave your car in town below and walk (very... More

Stopped by the gem on our return trip from Oregon Gardens. Will do so again. Impressive self-guided walk. Views from the highest place in the area for 360 degrees. History explained. Clean. Very impressive. Rose garden. Giant sequoias. Loved our visit.
