Description:

Abacela is a world-class, multi-award winning winery and viticulture...

Abacela is a world-class, multi-award winning winery and viticulture success story. 21 years ago when founders Earl and Hilda Jones planted its first vines they had no way of knowing what the outcome would be. They were scientists with zero winemaking experience who left secure careers and trekked 2700 miles west, kids in tow, to test a hypothesis. Abacela was an experiment they hoped would answer a question that had puzzled them for years: Why doesn't America produce any fine varietal Tempranillo wine? Earl and Hilda probably weren't the first enophiles to wonder why the great grape of Spain's famous Rioja wines was mysteriously absent from American fine wine. However they were the first to approach the question with scientific rigor, form a hypothesis and then devote their lives to testing it. Abacela is the result of one ordinary family's curiosity and determination that transformed their lives, built one of Oregon's best-loved wineries and influenced winegrowing not only in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, but across America.

Abacela offers a great Oregon wine tasting experience. The staff is really nice, engaging and eager to please. The grounds are simply breathtaking offering amazing views even though we're here during winter. The wines were really nice and they are known for their Tempranillos. This was my first experience tasting a "Temp" not originating from Spain and I was pleasantly... More

After a very nice overight stay at Lithia Springs Resort in Ashland, we stopped by Abacela to wine taste. I thought we were going to the old place but when we pulled up, it was a totally new venue! Very pretty, spacious tasting room with gorgeous views of the vineyards. We sampled some lovely Tempranillos here and purchased a few... More

Abacela is in my opinion the premier winery in the Umpqua Valley. Instead of concentrating on the more traditional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varieties Abacela concentrates on Spanish and Southern French grapes, which the climate is perfect for. Their signatures are Albarino for white and Tempernillo for red, but don't stop there. Every wine they produce will surprise and delight.

If you've never have experienced Spanish or Portuguese styles of wines (Tempranillo and Albariño), then Abacela is a must visit ... this is their speciality. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable and on a nice sunny day the area is very pretty. About the only thing I was a little disappointed with was our order of the Hummus plate,... More

Thank you for your recent review of your experience at Abacela’s Vine & Wine Center. We are glad you enjoyed your visit and our wines. The yellow jackets are a symptom of grape harvest and unfortunately a battle for us every year. We will immediately address the issue with the hummus and chips. We appreciate your feedback and hope to... More

Abacela Winery near Roseburg, OR, is well worth a visit. The location is lovely, on a hillside overlooking the Umpqua Valley. Attractive food offerings. And their wine is as good as it gets in southern Oregon. Specialties: Albariño and Tempranillo. Both are the finest I've tasted from Oregon and their reserve Tempranillo is the finest new world Tempranillo I've tasted,... More

Spanish, Rhone, Portuguese varietals matched to the soil and sun then captured in a bottle by a great winemaker. We visit often and linger over a purchased platter of bread, cheese, meats and more while chatting with knowledgeable tasting room staff or taking in the hillside vineyard beauty.

Earl and Hilda Jones (owners) have created one of the finest winery experiences in the Northwest. They specialize in Spanish wines such as Tempernillo and Albarino, and continually win awards for the best of the best. Gold Medals from all over the USA, and international travelers also!! Their facility is top notch with an aging area built back into the... More

Place is pristine with good wine and beautiful surroundings. We visited it after completing the safari. We also hiked bit to reach one of the top gazebo. Wine testing is reasonable priced 10$ per person for 5 different wines. One word of caution there wine bottle can be 25$ or more range.
