This is a wonderful place with mt biking trails, hiking trails, and horseback trails. You can enter from Juniper or Maston trailheads to find a series of interconnected trails. There are beautiful vistas overlooking the river as well as great sandy trails for hiking. Singletracks and MTBR have great suggestions and photos for the bikers out there. It's BLM land with lots of parking at both trail heads, but the biggest is Maston where there is a horse lot. Be courteous and be sure to see which trail you're on since some are designated bike or horse only. Great for a visit from Sisters, Redmond or Bend vacationers!

Unique dry canyon walking distance from downtown. Flat seven mile tour for the less adventurous has paved two way path and dirt/gravel trails through the trees and rocks - neat rocks. Ball parks and music venues add many activities held at various times. Seldom crowded and most people share willingly. bikes, baby strollers, walkers, skaters, runners, and a few I may have missed. Houses only along the rim are easy to ignore. Not a lot of wild animals, but gives a strong feeling of being in nature.

Kind of a hidden gem. For the most part not very technical, but tons of rocks to steer around with lots of pedal hits on rocks. There are several interesting (scary) bits but they are of short duration and can be easily hiked around. The exception to this is the trail on the southeast portion goes right to the edge of a cliff that overlooks the Deschutes river. We ended up hiking that as one mistake and you will be in serious trouble.

I enjoy MTB'ing this area because it's not very busy - most folks head west of Bend to ride which makes it nicer for me. Close to Redmond. Super nice vistas of the Deschutes River at many spots along the trail system. Easy to ride or hike. Be aware of the sandy soils in many spots.

If you love the desert this is a great area to explore. The others you meet are generally courteous and tolerant of us slow-pokes. Maston is close to town and has a good variety of terrain without the usual congestion of some of the more trendy places.

Mostly flat, decent terrain, TH is nice and new and well maintained. There are quite a few trail options and they are nicely laid out. Mostly novice and intermediate riding.
