Love the atmosphere. Quite little music bar, decent menu but the waitress was the worse. First people there for the evening and took 20 minutes for her to even ask us about drinks. Acted annoyed with everyone the whole night. Extremely rude.

The server was tall, skinny and white with glasses. He greeted my friend asking how much drinks he had, in a rude manner. I had just got off from work and wanted a bite and drink before bed. We ordered food off happy hour, he charged full price. No apology! I’m a mixologist and I’ve worked all over the world and I’ve never been treated this way. I will never be back.

Loved the vibe at this bar that's located below Zeus' cafe. Food and drinks were great, live music was fabulous, crowd was friendly -- all the elements of great night out.

I walked into the Ringler's Annex on the west end of the Crystal Hotel, that weird pointed end of the triangular shaped building. Walked around the small bar and down the steps that bring you down into Al's Den.
Today was the 105th Birthday of the Crystal Ballroom and they were having a Free-For-Al there and at the various Mcmenamins places near it. At Al'd Den they had Todd Clouser playing. So I ordered a pint of Terminator stout and enjoyed the live music. I love the underground bar feel of this place. So cool. So unique. Such a great place to get away from the street and feel you are far far away from it all. Just chilling out.

Stopped off here for a drink (or three) with a group of friends before the most recent Timbers v. Sounders match, wasn't disappointed. Good vibes, great beer, can't ask for much else.

Enjoyed local live music at the basement venue during our stay in Portland. Great range of beers, local wines and whiskey. Staff and service is excellent. Has a bohemian bar area separate from the music room to enjoy a quiet drink.

Staying at McMenamins Hotel we ventured into the basement to Al's Den for the live band performing. Al's Den is small but well worth rubbing shoulders with the locals! The band was outstanding, the drinks were cold and the service was very good. We had a hard time checking out but everyone was leaving about the same time, so it was expected. Go early, get a seat and enjoy!! It is a 21 and over because of drinks being served.

How can you go wrong with a free music venue? Shows start early, nice touch.
Small stage in the corner, acoustic style. Wide range of acts. We saw Dan Sheron. Good music. Enjoyed his set.
The bartender was great, we wanted decaf coffee nudges, so he brewed a pot for us. Good drink. Also tried a caesar salad. Big serving, good croutons. We split it.
Wait staff was attentive. Overall a great time.

Great little underground bar hangout!
Sat at the bar for a few hours and tried lots of different cocktails they had on their menu. The bartender, Anthony, had a warm personality, was welcoming and his ability to work around the bar was impressive.
The whole vibe is nice and the FREE live music was a bonus!

My wife and I were in town after moving away 25 years ago and were looking for some music and a bite in downtown.
I found this place on a music scene website and it was perfect. I small venue with free music and some simple food options. We had the pizza and a prawn appetizer. The craft beer was good and people watching was nice! Music was good and it was a nice find. Parking was available in a large garage just a couple blocks away.
