If you’re a tourist stay away from this area. This part of town is overrun by tents and addicts. We thought we would be in a nice area because the Hoxton is there. While the hotel is nice, the surrounding area is not. We were told by multiple Uber drivers during our time there to not walk around the area and from what o saw they are right. I’d come to Portland again but I would not step foot in this part of town

After having been to the heritage museum I thought going to China Town would be a great idea. It's run down and full of homeless. Was a complete waste of our time.

Boring, Rundown, Disgusting, and filled with boarded up, graffiti’d store fronts. Unless you’re in the area, I’d skip it.

As others have said, this area is run down and downright dangerous. Almost all storefronts are boarded up and there are homeless people everywhere. The Portland tourist Board should make it clear that this is not a place for visitors to come. Such a shame that they have let it come to this - Old town used to be such a neat area. I hope the government does something to revive it. Until that happens, stay away.

There is really no reason to go see this. It looks like most of Chinatown is gone. Now it looks like heroin town. Lots of dirty people screaming at nobody. Creepy.

NOT A SAFE PLACE AT NIGHT! Last weekend, my friend and I went to spend my birthday night in China town. It was probably around midnight, and we were walking back to my friends car and a man was riding next to us in his car saying things to us. We told him to leave us alone, but then he stopped at a stoplight, got out of his car, and came right up to us, and he smacked me right across the face. Luckily, another person pulled up behind him and told him if he touches us again he'll kick his ass. The man took off back to his car. We called the cops. The cops couldn't do anything about it because the car was registered in a females name. I wonder what would have happened if that guy didn't show up to save us. I believe he may have tried to knock us out and throw us in his car. LADIES, PLEASE DO NOT GO DOWN HERE AT NIGHT! I pray that this does not happen to anyone else.

This part of town is incredibly dangerous. Do not go, especially alone. Run down, dirty, and covered in tents.

Our tour guide pointed out the gate to Chinatown for us. It is an arch overhead which welcomes travelers to the Chinatown neighborhood of Portland. I was truly struck that evening by the number of what appeared to be homeless people. Our tour guide pointed out a place which provides meals for the homeless so it made sense that we would see so many people who appeared to be homeless.

Typical/traditional Chinese archway leading to what was once a vibrant Chinese community. The gate itself is quite nice and the stone (black granite?) guardian lions on either side are quite impressive. If you’re in the area it’s worth a look. There is a very good Chinese-Cantonese restaurant just steps from the gate (Good Taste Restaurant).

Really just a gate and nothing else, no Chinatown anymore. And the gate is not in the great shape.
Not worth visiting unless you already happen to be in the area.
