Came upon the memorial while navigating the walk directions. Poignant! There are bronze articles scattered long the route leading to the "wall" as if they were lost while in a terrible hurry. A large tablet (booklike) outlined the buildup to WWII and the genocide of...More

As other people say, this is very much worth a visit. Take the time. The write-up on the Holocaust is good background, and I had a longish conversation with a woman who found the memorial very moving.

We have visited several Holocaust memorials in the States and abroad. This one we found to be particularly compelling and extremely emotional and moving. As one was walking up the pathway to the curved stone memorial there were in brass personal possessions (a broken suitcase,...More

We stopped by the Holocaust Memorial on a walk back into town from the Rose Test Garden. Definately worth a visit.

Simple but thought-provoking. A memorial wall, bronzes of personal possessions those deported left behind as suitcase, doll, eyeglasses, menorah. Very good explanation of Holocaust next to memorial wall. A worthwhile visit.

The Holocaust memorial in Portland is a serene, peaceful place. It's a trip down one of history's most horrific slaughters, and it's a reminder that the worst of humanity must be met with its best.

Many memorials are found in many cities. This was very touching from the bronzed violin, shoes, menorah and suitcase to the quotes on the wall and the names of the many; relatives from Portland engraved on the rear of the wall.

The monument has a brief summary of the events of the Holocaust and some memorable quotations on one side. The other side shows the names of people with the family members they lost during the Holocaust. Unfortunately, the site is not well-designed for those with...More

I didn't know there was a Holocaust memorial here. Found by accident. Learned a lot. Well represented with little bronzes of things people would have lost: a suitcase, a pair of glasses, a violin, a doll, a stuffed animal. Made it more human.

This is a beautiful tribute to Holocaust victims & survivors. I will say we were approached by a somewhat aggressive homeless woman while visiting and it made us uneasy. She was screaming vulgarities at the monument after we refused to give her a cigarette that...More
