I headed toward the Holocaust Memorial on my way to The International Rose Test garden. As i approached the Memorial I paused when I saw what looked like a something left on the walkway. I got closer and found that it was not a lost item. It was part of the Holocaust Memorial. Scattered around the area were random items.... More

Having travelled all over Europe encountering copious Holocaust Memorials including the notorious Auschwitz Death Camp, I found this to honor the dead as well as any European attempt. It total, it is a beautiful work of art in a wooded setting which stands in stark contrasts to the horrors it represents. Bronze representations of the prisoners' belongings are scattered around... "Never Again" is the motto for Germany's Dachau concentration camp and the Holocaust Memorial in Washington Park, Portland Oregon is reminder of that important pledge. Near the entrance is a metal sculpture depicting shoes from prisoners taken into the camps. This alone brings tears to my eyes, just knowing this is only the tip of the huge iceberg of man... More

Happened to find it on my way down from the rose garden, really glad I did! It is a beautiful monument, even though there are many, this I have to say has been the most touching and heartbreaking I have been to, a must.

A peaceful setting allows one to reflect. The script on the stones and the signs were very well written. Touching and poignant. A memorial for the past, a hope to the future that people will care and protect each other.

When we started the walk towards the wall there is a bronzed baby shoe on the walk way. It made it seem much more real than just a distance memory or any other memorial I have been to. It really made me stop and think about what happened.

This memorial conveys its message very well; for me, it was an emotional experience. On the back are listed deceased family members of local survivors, and some of the lists cover several generations, with multiple members in a generation. Everyone needs to see this memorial.

Regardless of however movies you've seen, this holocaust memorial will move you. The replicas of actual children's toys shattered me to bits. A chilling reminder of the horrors of war and hatred.

A solemn place to visit, but worth your time. Look at everything. Be sure to notice the bronze objects scattered around. Read the walls and reflect. This is a good place to visit with children that are learning about the holocaust in school.
