Considered the most authentic Japanese Garden outside of Japan, the Portland Japanese Garden is a haven of tranquil beauty in all four seasons. In Spring of 2017, the Garden opened its new Cultural Village, complete with new garden spaces, classrooms, exhibition and gallery space, and the Umami Cafe.

A must-see for visitors to Portland. A short Light Rail Transit, a pick up by a local shuttle, and a drive through one of the most beautiful residential areas that we have ever seen. Featured are 5 small gardens typical of traditional Japanese landscape architecture....More

The Japanese gardens are a very beautiful nature setting with a really impressive view of the city and even Mt. Hood. The most interesting part of gardens from my perspective is the Zen Gardens with raked pebbles. Other parts were somewhat less interesting, I found...More

We visited the Japanese Garden on a recent trip to Portland. It is very well done & an enjoyable way to spend a morning or afternoon. There is some construction going on, but it did not detract from the beauty & peacefulness of the garden....More

Such a beautiful Japanese Garden and quiet. Just a pleasure to take your time and enjoy. Although it isn't as grand as San Francisco's Japanese Garden, it is lovely and worth a visit.

Awesome gardens in the midst of the crowded city. Wandering through gave me so much inspiration for simple & beautiful landscape projects.

What was a tranquil, beautiful part of Washington Park is being renovated along the lines of an interactive theme park. It is too small for a tea house experience and the volume of traffic. Impossible to find a quiet corner (our first visit was wonderful)...More

This is one of the most beautiful and relaxing places I have ever been. Peaceful to say the least. Marvelous water falls, fountains and pools all combine to let the sound of running/falling water relax you. I could find a spot to sit, listen to...More

We went first thing on a Sunday morning. This is a nicely thought out space, with water gardens, green spaces, and raked gravel- you can tell a lot of effort is put into it. That said, it was very crowded- you could not get a...More
