Best section: Native American. The rest is alright. Meager Impressionist section which doesn't live up to the marketing.

This museum has something for everyone! I liked the way the achitecture moved you through the exhibits so even if a certain period is not your "thing", you were still exposed as you moved through. At times, you would have to stop and look/appreciate things you might not have chosen to seek out.

One could spend the whole day here. There are so many pieces to look at and to just get lost in thought here. We didn't have much time and couldn't see the whole gallery, but what we did see was fabulous. A must for any art lover.

We visited this nice museum to see a special event and were not disappointed. They also have a pretty good permanent collection and we spent a lot more time than originally planned.

The Portland Art Museum was just a couple blocks from our hotel so we decided to spend the afternoon there. We enjoyed the extensive collection of the Native American Art; particularly the basket collection and the bead work. The museum has a small collection of Impressionist paintings (Monet, Renoir, Matisse) and we were able to take as much time as... More

We spent about 3 hours here on a rainy day. It is a very nice small museum (compared to the Art Institute of Chicago). we enjoyed especially seeing the native American exhibits.

Although some may think this is just a typical run of the mill art museum, once you enter inside the artistic fortress you are instantly swept with innovative art work. The artists, content, and set up can easily change one from finding an art museum as "boring", to becoming fascinated.

Well worth the price of admission. Good diversity of exhibits and early in the day on a Sunday, it wasn't too crowded. There is a focus on the history, crafts and clothing of the Indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest that is nicely extensive.
