The emerald green water is something to see. The main hiking trail is an old road that goes up to Jawbone Flats. There is a more rustic trail on the other side of the creek. Several cascades & waterfalls along the way.

We visited Willamette National Forest. The views of Mt. Washington were awesome. It was clear and sunny. We also went to the 3500 acre Detroit Lake and Santiam River Area. There are views of Mt. Jefferson from Detroit Lake. it is a popular lake for water activities and camping. We enjoyed our scenic visit to Willamette National Forest. The size... More

Our host in Albany suggested this hike, as it is her favourite. We we very pleased with the suggestion, although the water looked a little too cool for a paddle. We walked from the trailhead to Opal Pool via the (closed) road to Jawbone Flats, looked around at Opal Pool and then continued to Cedar Flats. Made it to Beachie... More

This entire area is awesome. Lots of waterfalls, beautiful swimming areas, etc. One of the best places in Oregon. Be prepared though, the water is very cold.

What a beautiful hike it was. Walking trough the old abandoned mining area with the mining equipment. The beautiful water falls with aqua color pools. The shaded hike a good place to walk when is hat day. The water Is nice and cold.

For directions to Opal Creek / Jawbone Flats trail head turn north from Highway 22 jet pass Mill City, Oregon and continue following North Fork Road. You will pass Three Pools swimming hole on the North Satiam River. A short while after the pavement ends you will come to a gate. This is Opal Creek trailhead. Hike a few miles... More

Joe Peak trail head is located about 30 miles from Springfield, Oregon. The trailhead is home to a very nice dispersed campsite. I arrived with my RV on a Tuesday and left early Thursday morning. I saw only two cars go by during that time frame. I met no one on the trail up or down. I make a point... More

By far one of the highlights of our time in Oregon. We've seen the gorge, the Coast, and now in the interior. The hiking around this area is spectacular. The last 6 miles of the road to the trail head are not maintained, so take it slow. The hike was fabulous event! It was a bit over seven miles round... More

Hiking the opal creek trail is amazing. There is a small fee for parking at the trailhead but this is like any other forest area. Walking past an old mining town as if it was frozen in time. Old mining parts and hidden falls all along the way. There is always something new to look at throughout the whole hike.... More
