Considered the largest sea cave in the United States, this site is where Steller sea lions and their cubs take shelter each year. Sea Lion Caves is a privately owned wildlife preserve and bird sanctuary. The Caves has been in operation since 1932 preserving and protecting the wildlife under our care. We are open 363 days a year only closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving day. Our normal hours of operation are 9 am until dusk year round. We are not a zoo and the animals are free to come and go as they please. The sea lions can usually be found at either of four locations on the property; in the Cave, in the water, at the Lookout/rockery, and on other nearby rock ledges. HOWEVER, THE SEA LIONS ARE NOT ALWAYS IN THE CAVE OR MAY BE MIGRATING OUT OF AREA - THEY ARE WILD ANIMALS AND COME AND GO AS THE PLEASE. CALL AHEAD FOR INFORMATION. Self-guided are the rule, but guided tours are available.

Located just north of Florence, Oregon and nearby to Haceta Light House, this is a good spot to visit on a rainy day (mostly indoors) or a really hot day (cool breezes and caves are always cool temperatures). Great for families, the sea lions are noisy and there are lots of them. They do smell though, be prepared for some... More

Sea Lion Caves is a great place to visit and watch a lot of sea lions lay around on the rocks. If you're lucky you can see some orca whales passing by.

If you haven't visited before, this is a "must do" for your drive down the coast. I was there starting around 60 years ago and the facility has continually modernized. The sea lions are noisy and interesting, although they can generate some interesting aromas. The gift shop has fun items for everyone. When the whales are migrating, this high clifftop... More

It was slightly expensive at 14 per person, especially since it doesn't really take that long to get the full experience. The gift shop is cute, some of the staff isn't very friendly though. The elevator ride down was super quick, and it was fun to see them all down there in the cave. We took a few photos but... More

We enjoyed the walk to the elevator, even in the rain because we could see some sea lions swimming in the ocean! We brought our binoculars which was nice to have here and in the cave. We saw what they estimated as 200 sea lions in the cave, it was fun to watch them in their natural environment. Yes it... More

This was an impromptu stop on hwy 101. We are glad we finally did it. It was worth every penny of what they charged. It was a nice walk down to the elevator. You could stop and just watch the sea lions outside of the caves diving in the waves coming in. Even nicer to as far as the eyes... More

Another great trip to see the sea lions in their natural environment. We saw 200 of them in the cave and about 20 frolicking in the ocean outside! We also loved the gift shop ! We bought their special warm, candied nuts, popcorn and sodas! So tasty! We also bought a few souvenirs. What great fun for all ages!

The day we stopped in was very rainy and cold, so we really appreciated the heating in the gift shop, and the fact that there was a lift all the way to the cave (rather than a long walk). It was an experience to see the Sea Lions in their natural habitat... albeit smelly and noisy (what else would you... More

If you visit the Florence area, this is a must see attraction. -it is unique in that you see 100's of sealions in their natural habitat. It is a stroll to walk that one the elevator, then you go to the sea level to sea lions caves.

We were pleased to find the cave full of sea lions when we visited. The staff said there were about 150 of them. Really enjoyed watching them play in the water and interact with each other in the cave.
