It isn't a real large museum, but looks worth a visit. You can see a lot of the rolling stock through the fence. Was closed 9-2-2020 but no mentions on FB or website. Really no reason it can't open with face masks, etc. The rating I gave is artificial since I wasn't able to go inside.

We were really excited to stop by today, but come to find out they are only open Wednesday and Saturday from 12-4 or by appointment. Very disappointing.

I driven past here many times, and I have always said that I wanted to stop. A small fence surrounds an open air collection of the equipment that was once so important to this area of the south coast. The museum has two locomotives on display, several switcher engines and two cabooses all very welcoming to exploration both inside and out. A steam powered rail crane is also on display. The museum also contains examples of logging equipment ranging from a D8 cat to antique chain saws. There is also a couple of pond boats and large pieces of equipment that once lived in various local mills
I really enjoyed my visit here, my wife she was happy that I enjoyed my visit here. If you are looking for a well mannered, climate controlled, video narrated museum this probably isn't your stop if, however, you want to stop at a museum, often rained on, that the kids might actually enjoy you might consider checking this one out.
The museum is only open twice a week Wednesday and Saturday from 9-3, free entrance with suggested donations.

Several historic locomotives and cabooses to explore. Great idea for kids and history buffs. Volunteers are very knowledgeable.

It is gratifying to see small towns like Coos Bay, that have lost most or all of their historic reason for being (in this case, the lumber industry), come together to preserve what remains of their history. This railroad museum is a case in point. Vintage locomotives, rail cars, and equipment have been made available for younger generations to see what life was like 100 years ago. Hopefully, the townsfolk can get these engines up and running, to make passenger excursions up the coast to Reedsport, Florence, and beyond. Stop by, view the trains, and leave a nice donation.

An important part of the area's timber and transportation history. The railway was an important link for many of the coastal communities.

If you are a person who loves railroad history, then this is the place to be. There are many older trains that you can board and get an up close and personal experience. Many trains and artifacts to catch your eye. There is also an excellent gift store run by some of the nicest people. So, come on down and bring the kids (if you want) and have some great fun.

You can walk though original historical train cars. You can sit on the seats of 100 year old cabooses. You can ring the bell of a 1922 steam engine. I'm not even into trains, but wow - that's cool!
