This 50 site campground is magical! It sits on the shores of the Chetco River on the southern Oregon coast just 8 miles from Brookings. The emerald colored waters and the amazing grove of fragrant myrtle trees make this a one-of-a-kind state park.
Three cabins, clean bathrooms and showers, horseshoe pits, huge day use area, wonderful hosts! An amazing trail through a second growth redwood grove is a hop skip and a jump from the park. This is yet another Oregon State Parks gem.

This is a great little swimming hole! If you visit before June, the water is a bit higher but diminishes over summer. We've visited every year for four years and our girls (now 10, 13 yrs.) had a blast. There's a fairly deep hole in the center for swimming. However, you can walk up or swim up the side of the river and float down. We did this for hours! There is a rock in the middle of the swimming hole you can jump from (IF the water is high enough). Plus, you can drive on the river rock and park right next to the river. There are nice, flush toilets about a 5 min hike back near the entrance. It can get fairly warm as it's inland about 8 miles. WELL worth the trip. If you're with non-swimmers or little ones, have them wear a life jacket. There are parts that flow rapidly but no rapids. The current can be fast for non-swimmers. It's safe if you swim with your little ones and keep an eye on them.

After you pull into the park keep going straight and just before the road drops down to the river there is parking on the left. In front of the parking area is a picnic area that ends in a well developed trail that meanders along the river. There are some sections that seem like rainforest, are thick with moss and a variety of ferns. New trees sprout from rotting downed trees while some trees are hollowed out. There are a variety of mushrooms, depending upon the time of year. It ends at the county road and if you want to keep going another trail starts across the road. It is called the REDWOOD NATURE TRAIL. There are giant redwoods, some burned and hollowed out giant redwoods large enough to stand in and take a great photo.

Park rangers up here are obsessed with doing work on Sundays when most folks come up here for peace and quiet. One Sunday was a leaf blower all day. This Sunday was a gal with a power washer choosing to spray off the cabins. Clueless.

Our family had a terrible experience at Loeb State Park this weekend.
My daughter, her husband, my grandson and I had planned a nice camping weekend at Loeb Park, a park which we’ve enjoyed for several years. But the park is now so strictly regimented, it’s simply not enjoyable anymore.
It began immediately when my daughter and I tried to park our cars in order to accommodate the four cars that would be there. The Park Host told us that our tires could not be off the pavement at all. (My daughter’s car had two tires on the dirt next to the pavement.) We were gracious and said, sure, we’d correct the problem. Unfortunately, we endured the Host scrutinizing us as we moved our cars around, as well as had to listen to his advice on how we should handle it. (Are we not adult enough to figure it out ourselves?)
My son-in-law gets off work quite late, and wasn’t expected until around 10 PM, so my daughter went up to the pay station in the dark, with a flashlight, to get a payment envelope to pay the extra $5 for his car when he arrived. The Park Host accosted her in the dark, asking her “Can I help you?”. Rather unsettling, and unnecessary for him to interfere with her. What’s the point? We then noticed this man walking up and down the street in the dark, “checking” on all the camp sites, sometimes standing quietly in the dark right at the end of the drive into our campsite.
My son-in-law arrived, and we began to eat dinner together around the campfire. The Park Host again shows up and tells us that it’s 10:00 and we are too loud and need to use “library” voices. We were speaking in normal tones, but AGAIN, we were gracious and said, sure, we’d hold it down. And we did, indeed, lower our voices significantly.
About 10 minutes later, AGAIN the Park Host shows up and demands the payment of the $5 for the extra car. At this point, we are feeling pretty harassed, and my daughter said she’d get to it right away. The Park Host said he needed it immediately, but don’t worry, he’d wait, no rush. We certainly weren’t happy to have him standing there among us “waiting” for the $5 payment (which requires filling out a form along with the money), and at this point, our unhappiness with him was showing.
Another half hour later, and again he shows up and tells us he can still hear us talking and laughing. We need to only whisper. Can anyone hear a whisper with a crackling fire? Can anyone laugh in a whisper? Seriously, we were not loud. The campground was exceedingly quiet, and our site was up against a cliff, so the sound tends to bounce off and amplify. At least that's what we are guessing, because his accusation was ridiculous.
The following morning, we visited the neighboring campers and asked if we had kept them awake at all with our talking, and they told us they didn’t even notice us. Upon speaking with the Park Ranger in charge, we were told that these were the rules, that this particular Park Host was a good employee, and that we weren’t welcome to stay another night. (We certainly did NOT plan to stay!) She said that the “whisper” rule was enforced, and they felt that if they walked past a campsite and could hear talking, then it was too loud. That they are striving to make Loeb into a “family” campground. (Most kids I know are on the loud side, so I’m not sure how this is going to work out!)
We have a camping family, and we know how unruly and inconsiderate some campers can be. That is not the way we are. We are respectful toward others, as well as we are tolerant of others who themselves are enjoying their camping experience and may be talking and laughing at night. To be treated as though we were a problem was insulting at the least. To be harassed at every turn was ridiculous.
If you want a campground that allows you to go to sleep at 9:30 in total peace and quiet, then Loeb is for you. But if you are a typical camper, who enjoys sitting around the campfire in the dark, making s’mores, and chatting with your children, then stay away because the park rules won't allow it.

1st would like to say that this park is Gorgeous. Great setting on the chetco river . BUT this will be the 1st and LAST time I or anyone else I know will ever come to this park. Some people have had great Experiences here I dont doubt. If you are looking for a Family Friendly Campground this is NOT the Campgroud for you !! If you like to be in Bed at 10pm then this is the place. Quiet time is from 10pm-7am and they are Very strict with this policy Now. If being outside enjoying your friends and family making s'mores and laughing ...DONT DO IT !!! After being harrassed by the very Rude Camp Host/Park Rangers and State troopers . I will not be returning to this campsite again. After reading the last few reviews it looks like others had the same experience our group had. Looks like they might have new people running this location since in the past others have had great times at this park prior . Also looks like some people back in 2011 had a similar experience. I would understand if our group was being inconsiderate of other campers but with For NO REASON is ridiculous.
Sadly I Say this will be last time we stay at this campground even though it is an Amazing looking place just POORLY managed

This park is beautiful and that is the only reason I am rating it "Poor" rather than "Terrible". After being told we were too loud after quiet time on night #1 of our stay, we felt absolutely stalked by the park ranger and her state trooper friend the remainder of our stay. Apparently laughing and talking quietly around the campfire after 10 p.m. is strictly FORBIDDEN. This is not a park for families, this is a park for retired folks who turn in early. We were with friends who had a young baby and by the second night of our stay, they were afraid they would be scrutinized every time the baby cried in the night. Two different families in our party received tickets on the road at the entrance of the campground for various irrelevant reasons,(i.e. no front license plate) on day #2 of our stay. Following the two traffic tickets, the same state trooper then cruised the campground both on foot and in his car several times during the evening and into the night. The amount of anxiety and monetary loss that these events brought our group nearly spoiled our entire weekend. We felt that we were needlessly harsh with our children than we usually would have been; not allowing them to laugh and giggle at the campfire as 10 p.m. was approaching. After moving our group into our RV at 9:50 we were still on edge that we would be visited by a person of authority for whispering too loudly. This was absolutely ridiculous and we will never return again. If you prefer an extremely quiet campground this is your place. If you have children and want to enjoy a fun time together that may or may not continue after 10 p.m. don't waste your vacation here.

It's a nice place to poo, but I would not stay again. We have been going to this place since we were little. Now we (my brother and I) have families of our own and have been sharing this with this with them for a couple years and it has progressively gotten worse. The park ranger was very rude, and as after was harassing us. My wife and I have a new born and we were actually afraid if he cried that we would get harassed even more, especially if it was after 10pm " The curfew".. I will never go back.. unless I am in the area and have to poo.

I believe our entire party was harassed by the park ranger. This is not a family friendly park. Curfew is 10 and no one laugh or talk because its absolutely against the rules. Our family has stayed her for years and this will be the last time we stay. Sadly. It appears to be more of a retirement community more than a family camp ground. Not only were we monitored constantly the Oregon State police were constantly driving around and writing ticket out to as many people possible. I myself received a ticket for legal tint on my car. We've owned the car 2 years and bought it that way. We've never had any problems with the tint before.
I am disappointed and so is the rest of our party. I am sure our friends who are here for the first time with their children will NEVER return.
Two years ago I'd have given this place 5 stars!! Never again!!!

Treated poorly:( my baby was crying and it was frowned upon. State trooper stalking people and issuing tickets as they go in and out of the campground mind you these tickets were within an hour of eachother both in our party of people one of which was a $380 ticket for window tint the other 5 miles over speed limit upon sitting around camp we heard him light up someone else. Oh yeah and giggling kids around campfire strictly prohibited at 10:00 sharp. Forgot to also mention that same cop strolled through our campground not once but 3 times each time stopping and staring our campsites down. Extremely disappointed as our families would camp here every year. No longer will we camp here.

wow...good question..pit bulls?...I think I remember a conversation between a camper and a ranger about that. I believe that there is not a restriction per se...at least not enforced until there is a problem, so it must be for all dogs. This is NOT a normal camping area..more like camping in a city park. It is VERY family orientated and kids are always present. It is heavily patrolled and 2 on site hosts. All dogs must be on a leash at all times or they will warn you then ask you to leave. It is not a let the dogs and kids run free kinda place. Hope this helps...cant imagine any dog would have fun there being on a leash 24/7

I would like to know how many electrical outlets are available in the cabins. I understand there is no cooking allowed, but wonder about coffee maker? phone or tablet charging, etc.
Written 8 March 2018
I have dogs too. I look up the website and see what the restrictions are, they usually have the type of dogs not allowed at the site. But if it still unclear call and ask if there are restrictions. It seems like some even have restrictions on hiking trails, you may want to keep that in mind too.

Can you bank fish for the fall salmon run there and is it any good?

Forgot to add: Do a Google Earth and the foot access points are pretty obvious. If you're in a drift boat lots more water can be covered BUT know where the take-outs are located (GPS!). A long float to the next ... or the Pacific Ocean.

Can you tube/raft from Loeb down the river to the Beachfront RV park, and how long does it take?
Written 25 July 2016
No, too dangerous when you get closer to the ocean. But, then again, if you want an adventure and a LONG ride, go for it!!

Are dogs permitted in the cabins and/or campground?
Written 12 July 2015
Also, the campground is all pet-friendly. Lots of folks with dogs. We had three dogs with us when we camped there.
