When we reached this overlook the fog had finally lifted and we got a great view of the whale's head rock formation. There is a little path you can walk down to get a slightly better view of the area. Definitely a nice stop even if you do not want to walk down the path.

There is both a Whaleshead Viewpoint and a Whaleshead Picnic Area and Beach Access. The viewpoint is nice, but I preferred the beach access, as it's a nice broad sandy beach, that offers a closer view of Whaleshead Rock.

I didn't know why it was named the Whaleshead Viewpoint. Once I was at the lookout, I knew. There was a massive boulder in the ocean. At first it looked like a whale. However it was the boulder.
The ocean was calm.
We stood there, admiring the massive boulder.
Worthwhile to see!

We saw a sign of this place when we drove Highway 101 so we wanted to see it. There was a small car park and nice view on the Pacific and Whaleshead Rock from the car park which was like framed with the trees. We enjoyed it.

Just note, the road to get down here is a bit rough, and if you have 4WD you'll be better off. We saw a few minivans down at the bottom, but I would make sure to take it extra slow on the way down, as the road can be pretty uneven in some places. You will require a bit of power to get back up, so just bear that in mind.
The beach itself was super nice. Really quiet, bathrooms available, and lots of tidepools, and rocks to explore. Definitely recommend this stop for families with kids.

Stop at the overlook and, if the fog is light, get some wonderful shots of the coast. Be sure to bring boots if you go down on the beach, the water is cold.

Beautiful views when the fog is gone. Love driving along the coast and stopping to enjoy the views, breathe in the fresh air and walk around to enjoy the sand and cool water. Beachcombing is good early morning or after a storm.
