This park has a restroom and Childs play area and lots of paths to walk the dogs. It is beautiful but really transforms at Christmas time when they put up lights and decorations galore.

Azalea Park in Brookings sits up on a hill overlooking the harbour and ocean. The azalea bushes here are very old, and cover a large section of the park. Although they were not in bloom when we were there, it must be a magnificent sight in summer! This park used to be a state park, but was neglected for many years. The City of Brookings took it over nearly 20 years ago and private citizens volunteer to help keep it beautiful.
There is much more to this park than just azaleas, however. There is a large playground located on one side, and a large lawn area that is perfect for children to run and play. On the northeast corner there is a pretty garden with an interesting statue and benches. There is also an area where music festivals are held in the summer.
In 2008, the Capella by the Sea was constructed using funds donated by Elmo Williams in memory of his wife, Lorraine. This lovely A framed building is a non-denominational chapel and is a quiet place to reflect. It is open several hours each day and is available for private ceremonies. However, it was not open the day we were there so we peeked through the windows to see inside!
No matter what you like to do in a park, Azalea Park has something to please everyone. To get there, turn east just on the north side of the river and follow the signs up the hill.

What a lovely park! We were taking in the sights of Brookings and enjoyed the morning walking through the park. The azaleas had already finished blooming. I can only image how pretty the park is in March or April. There is a nice disc golf course here too and a kids playground and ball fields. Don't forget to check out the lovely chapel too. Brookings is lucky to have this wonderful park for the community

The only nice areas were near the parking lot. It is azalea season and hardly saw one in bloom. Huge areas of grounds need serious pruning of deadwood. Very disappointed since this is one of the claims to fame for the community.

Small park that is nice when the flowers are in bloom but not a must see if you are passing through. You can see quite a bit from the parking lot.

Missed the azalea blooms. This park has two sections. One section, kept up by the local garden club is very beautiful and well manicured. Lots of different plants and trees. The second part of the park, encompassing the vast expanse of park; not so well kept up. Azaleas are not pruned. No bedding plants to help with the garden. And no signs identifying the different varities of azaleas. Skip this part of the park.

Small flower lined park up the street from town with doggy bags for doggy walking, a concert lawn seating with band area for summer concerts, paths meandering around lots of mature Azalea plants and beautiful statuary with seating and a beautiful small chapel. We parked by the children's playground and it was full of happy kids.

I discovered this nice in-town park when I attended one of the summer concerts with my dog in tow. The bandshell provided a backdrop for the musicians and the acoustics were great. This park has a playground, trails, athletic fields, picnic tables, and a gazebo that overlooks the lawn area. The beautiful Capella by the Sea offers a serene place with beautiful views to spend a thoughtful moment. The Capella by the Sea can be reserved for ceremonies such as weddings. There are annual festivals, free monthly concerts during the summer and the Festival of Lights during the holiday season. This park is a great place to picnic and enjoy time with friends and family.

The azaleas were not in bloom when we stopped here in September 2013, but the park was still nicely maintained and beautifully green. We stopped in to the Capella Chapel, which was a beautiful tribute to one of Brookings' resident's late wife (per the friendly volunteer present at the time). A delightful architectural beauty on the edge of the garden with a beautiful view. If you want to stop and stretch your legs, this park is close to Hwy 101 and a nice break from driving.

Azalea Park appealed to the whole family. The younger kids loved the kidtown playground. Walking around the park and seeing all of the efforts of the volunteers in the community to keep it so beautiful was just a good feeling. We also walked to the Chapel and concert area, where we city folk saw deer. It was a great day!

Yes, dogs on leashes are allowed. The lights open up at dusk usually the night after Thanksgiving and stay up until usually right after Christmas. They have a Facebook page for the event: Nature's Coastal Holiday, Brookings, OR.
