Toledo area is fortunate to be the home of the Toledo Fighters Museum. I can't imagine other cities having anything more extensive or enjoyable as this attraction. Historical accounts of unusual or extreme fire events. Actual equipment from many years of firefighting in our regional. Commemoration of special individuals. If firefighting is in your blood, in your family or of interest, this is an enjoyable stop, Check for hours of operation.

I wanted to visit because my grandfather was a fireman. What a treat. Not only did I learn about the long and rich history of Toledo's Fire Department, but when I mentioned my grandfather was a fireman, one of the volunteer docents- who was a retired frreman- said he knew my grandfather. I was a bit skeptical, since my father died in 1987, but when he told a story about him, I knew that he really knew Grandpa Karmol. Amazing, and a fascinating few hours. Learned about some personal history, as well as some Toledo history.

This place is fun and educational. I lived in Toledo for 15 years, and it took a visiting family member to drag me here. I was not looking forward to this boring educational museum, but boy was I surprised. It's packed with cool stuff and they'll guide you through the whole place. It would be a great place to take Girl and Boy Scout troops. It's free, but I can't remember if there was wheelchair access.

Passing through Toledo for a 1 night stop over, we decided to take a look at this interesting museum, as the reviews looked good.
Didn't realise that it was only open on Saturdays 12-4?
We were both gutted, as it looks a really cool place to visit....
Managed to snap a photo through the glass shutter.

One of the best secrets of Toledo. A place full of the Toledo Fire Department from the beginning of the service. Old rigs and a wonderful collection of fire fighting equipment. The best thing it is free but donations are great appreciated. The hours open are Saturdays noon until 4:00 pm and by appointment. They even have a kids program on fire safety that kids love.

This is an awesome place to visit for all ages. At this time entrance is free with donation excepted. It has great displays showing the history of the Toledo Fire Department. If you have a past family member or friend that was in the department they have their history.

A collection of historic fire engines and memorabilia. Free; donations accepted. Your party is met at the door by a retired firefighter, who will be your guide. Tour (at least for us) is personalized depending upon interest and ours was geared toward our grandchildren (per discussion/request). Started with *human* drawn fire engine, then horse drawn, steam, and eventually gasoline powered vehicles. Tour included how the historic alarm systems worked, the role of dalmatians, how logs are kept still to this day, and many interesting historical tidbits. Kids were able to pose with fire engines and guide allowed them to sit in one for pics. Also don some old gear about 15 years too big for them for adorable pics. Don't forget the camera and keep it ready.

The museum is pretty small so I was skeptical but it was full of neat memorabilia. Our tour was lead by a retired fireman and you could tell he was very passionate about his job. It's free to get in but we donated to the cause. Good way to spend an hour or so.
