We'd not been to the Maumee Bay State Park and decided to go there for lunch. It was NOT disappointing and appeared to look in excellent condition with lots of people enjoying Lake Erie.

No - you can come to the Lodge and walk without checking in. The campground requires a day pass for a small charge to visit a camper. But there is no reason to go there to hike. The restaurant is also open to the public... More

I didn't personally camp there, just drove through, I would call the park office and and tell the the same thing. Some spots are more secluded and some have more shade. Sorry I can't tell you more.
