What a great day trip. If it’s your first time, Park at Lake Front Park and Beach and walk to the pier. It’s a nice walk and not too far. From the lookout, you can see the lighthouse. The path going there is presently marked “restricted”, but there were a couple of rule breakers today who made it to the lighthouse unscathed. If you’re into fishing, the right side of the pier has areas for fishing. If you walk behind the pier towards Comfort Inn, you’ll see the yacht club, Huron River, and businesses. There’s a coffee house ain’t far from Comfort Inn and restaurants, too. If you want something sweet, stop by the Donut Shop early.
I spent some time on the other side of the pier reflecting on life while listening to the waves. The park is clean. There’s a restroom available and very clean as well.

A nice, short, free walk out to view the lighthouse. Beautiful views of Lake Erie and to watch the boats coming and going in the river. Lots of folks fishing along the pier. Saw charter boats, kayakers, jet skiers, and sailboats.

It was the first time in Huron and we wanted to see the lighthouse, the view and the sight was beautiful. You can walk all the way to the lighthouse or just sit down.

We walked as far as the viewing area, for the lighthouse.
The remainder of the walk (to go the entire path to the lighthouse), said that it was off limits.
I did see two people at the base of the lighthouse, but with the weather of the day, I was not sure that it was advisable to have made the walk (along the rocks), to get to the lighthouse

Very nice place to go for a walk or a ride on your bike. You can stroll along the river on a walkway right by river. There are benches and a couple of swings. There are three restaurants down there two full service restaurants and one hot dogs and ice cream. Than you can extend your wall or ride out the pier. You can also fish off the pier. But you do need a license. You can go out to the block house where there is an observation deck. This is the Huron river and it is a working river so you might be see an freighter unloading its cargo. Also on Saturday night they have a concert at the boat basin. A must see if your in the area.

This pier was a nice walk. It was a little windy when we went, but it was a very scenic view.
You can see the boats coming and going, and the sea gulls pretty much stayed off the pier.
We went to the end of the pier, but not out to the lighthouse as that looked a bit rough with large concrete blocks to walk on with spaces between them. A great scenic photo shoot at the end of the pier.

If you like to walk along the water, watch boats, look over the shoulders of fisher people, listen to the gulls, watch the ducks, and have a bald eagle fly so low overhead that the swish of its wings can be heard, then take a walk on the Huron Pier. Read the signs and get a feel for what the Huron River meant to the late 19th and early to mid 20th century economy. It is an easy walk on a huge wide “sidewalk”to an observation point with a free viewer to take in the scenery. It’s accessible too. On a clear day one can see Cedar Point and the islands to the west and the Avon point to the east with the unaided eye. A more challenging walk leads to the lighthouse. Not the postcard kind, but a more modern structure. We’ve never been out that far because we take the dog with us and the walk to the light house has “broken dog legs” written all over it.
The breeze is always blowing and the sounds of the lake and all the creatures that inhabit the area always fills the ears. A great way to spend twenty minutes or a couple of hours.

I used to live here and made the walk out to the lighthouse a thousand times. Unfortunately it was closed on this visit but should re-open soon. You can see Cedar Point in the distance and nothing but water when you look toward the north. Looks like the ocean!

We love going on a summer evening and walking all the way out to the end of the pier. (The last bit does involve some careful walking from rock to rock; not hard, but do be careful!)

is there parking near? is it free? thanks!
Written 14 June 2019
There is a lot of parking near this sometimes it gets filled up. Huron has lots of summer festivals and bands on the weekends. I believe all of it is free still, but it is not hard to find free parking within 1/4 mile of the pier.

How long is the pier? Is it all flat surface?
Written 15 September 2018
The trail is just about a 1/2 mile long and about 1/2 of it is smooth concrete the other 1/2 out to the lighthouse is large rocks that are pretty easy to navigate.
