Established in 1963 the West Coast Heritage Centre Zeehan has continued to grow and offers visitors a comprehensive experience and understanding of the history, heritage and culture of the Tasmanian West Coast. Visitors can experience everything from an Edwardian picture show in the historic Gaiety Theatre to the modern day underground mine simulation as part of their visit. The galleries and exhibits highlight the efforts of the pioneers', both men, women and children who carved an existence from the remote wilderness in search of Tasmanian mineral wealth and developed the region as we know it today.

This is an excellent museum of the early days of Zeehan, its history and the mining industry. It covers a diverse range of topics and has both indoor and outdoor exhibits. It is easy to spend several hours here. Some of the unusual aspects include the Gaiety Theatre with two silent movies running, the court house and Freemason's lodge. Outdoors... More

I urge you to visit this amazing Museum. A really wonderful adventure covering the early days of Tasmania. Our group consisted of different age groups, and everyone enjoyed it. Take lunch, and eat in their garden whilst you plan further explorations of the Museum/Gaiety Theatre & much more. Visit the Spray Tunnel and the Pioneer Graveyard to complete a wonderful... More

This was our first visit to the West Coast Heritage Centre since 2004, and we were impressed with the increased number of exhibits since our last visit. The recently opened research room is fantastic - and had I realized it's existence I would have stayed longer in the area. Well done to everyone involved in the preservation and promotion of... The collection ranges from rocks and minerals to trains and "The Gaiety Theatre" where Dame Nelly Melba once performed in Zeehan. There is a lot to discovery in this collection. If you are driving through the area I recommend that you visit the Centre.

We made a trip to Zeehan to see this museum and weren't disappointed. We thought it was a great collection, with a number of different areas that catered for all tastes. We can understand that some people thought it was too expensive, however we realise the museum is a not-for-profit and need the income to keep and maintain such a... More

Unfortunately this was the low point of our Tasmanian holiday. Geological specimens and a few century old photographs does not qualify this centre as an attraction and the asking price for entry was absolutely outrageous. Give this one a miss.

Thank you for your review of our business. We are disappointed to hear that your experience with us was not an enjoyable one. We strive to provide a wide range of exhibits within our complex, not only geological specimens and photographs but others such as the Gaiety Theatre with its film show, pioneer women's display and art gallery; the police... Overwhelming experience as so much to take in. Thoroughly enjoyed the Edwardian Theatre which had an old silent movie running. So much to see but certainly worth the cost. Loved it.

If you dont see this place it would be like going to Paris and not visiting the Louvre. Well, maybe not the Louvre, but you know what i mean.

Hidden away in the little town of Zeehan (once a bustling hub in the West Coast of Tasmania) is a treasure trove collection of rocks and minerals that opens your eyes to the beauty nature can create and, the knowledge and ingenuity of the mining industry in its seemingly early days. The rooms echo with the buildings former history as... More

So disappointed An entry fee of $25 .. For real Travelled down west with my besties as our families are both from Zeehan. All excited to go to the museum that we would go to as kids - and see this amazing museum. My grandfathers mining clothes are on the modle man pushing a cart of minerals. Also various history... The West Coast Heritage Centre is a not for profit organisation that strives to keep entry fees at a reasonable price while preserving the West Coast’s history, heritage and culture for not only this generation but for future generations. Unfortunately maintaining heritage structures and the history contained within them requires considerable maintenance and upkeep, which without the revenue from door... More
