This place is situated at the dude of the main highway so you need to slow down so you don’t miss it. It is based in farming area. Great story of his the convicts built this bridge to give access to Swansea and Hobart. Well worth the visit.

Yet another fascinating stone bridge in Tasmania, built by hand, by convict labour.
This one is right next to the Tasman Highway, so you can’t really miss it when you’re on the road between Little Swanport & Swansea.
There’s a parking area just off the highway and, as usual in Tassie, an informative signboard.

A stone bridge that must look like no other and no one really knows why it has the spikes it has. Built by convicts in the mid nineteenth century to enable a coach road to connect towns to the north and south, it was built in a form that truly maintains its unique attraction now as much as it must have back then. Well worth visiting.

The spikiness is trivial. The main attraction is that it’s a convict bridge constructed of rock. Seems pretty well made because it carried the road for a very long time. The signs don’t say much about the construction method which was disappointing but nonetheless worth a quick look in since it’s right next to the road.

If you happen to be driving this road going north to Swansea or heading down to Hobart from Freycinet this is worth stopping for. Great story at the side of the road worth 10-15 minutes of your time. Literally right next to the main road parking is free but no facilities at all.

The Convicts did it hard in making this bridge but the design left its mark, and still 200 years later we are stopping here.
Be careful in the wet but worth the visit and reading its history - fully understandable!

Driving along the east coast highway near Swansea you can't help but come across the Spiky Bridge beside the road. It's different, and certainly catches your eye... so take a quick detour and drive over it or walk across it... heck, even perch on top of it! The views across the road of the ocean are also photo worthy! Best of all it's free!!

Keep an eye out for signs as it’s tucked away slightly off the road. An interesting but strange bridge - looking for nearby dinosaurs would be fun

We stopped. It certainly lived up to it name. Nice way to break up the trip to Hobart. Car park was small. Especially when someone drove forward with a trailer on. Wish I could have stuck around to witness the struggle of them getting out. Would stop again

Historical place to visit. Wonderful architecture. Only a bridge with a write up about the bridge. Worth a quick drive by.
