Highfield Historic Site is an 1830's farm complex built by convict labor. The Van Diemen's Land Company chose to settle in the area to establish a large scale sheep grazing property. The site is open to the public and interprets the conflicts that arose with the Company's men and the Aboriginal people. The house and outbuildings are being restored by the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service as the property had fallen into disrepair.

The site is open daily from 1 September - 31 May, open weekdays from 1 June - 31 August

Amazing picturesque location for a wedding. The grounds and original buildings and barns were respectfully restored and filled with warmth and charm.

National Parks staff are to be congratulated on running this interesting and informative historic site. It is well managed, accessible and fun. You can wander around reading lots of well presented storey boards and looking at their extensive exhibits. Takes somewhere between 1 to 3 hours, depending on how closely you read the interesting displays and how many of the... More

The most well cared for gardens and property, with the main house bought "back-to-life" with loving restoration. We loved our visit to this property, right from the friendly, helpful manner of the lady from the parks and wildlife service at reception, to the stories displayed around the rooms telling us all about the personalities of the early settlers on the... When you arrive at Highfield, the first picture you will see is an old photograph of the building. What a terrific transformation of this piece of Australian history. Take a walk through the building and the surrounds, it will not disappoint. The only sore point was the employee the day we went, who decided to spend time on a personal... More

Highfields is a work in progress a beautiful Historically significant Gem in an equally stunning location. Parks & Wildlife are doing a Stirling job of refurbishing the house and grounds. Staff are friendly and extremely knowledgeable describing the political & historical events from convict to present days.
