We went on the bus that picked us up across the street from our hotel in Katoomba. The trip out was relaxing and enjoyed the scenery. Our bus drive was great. Once we arrived we went to our first cave The Chiefly. Our tour guide...More
We did the Lucas, Imperial and Chifley caves. The Imperial took about 1 hour had 358 stair steps and was the easiest cave. The Chifley cave took about 1 hour and requires average fitness had 421 stair steps. Lucas Cave took about 1.5 hour tour...More
We got here via a Tour from Sydney and back again for the day. 11 hours coach tour with the cave visit in the middle.
We went into Lucas Cave, there are three or four others I believe.

This place is amazing! You feel like you are in another world when you drive through the entrance tunnel. The caves are beautiful, and the walks around are wonderful. Absolutely do not cater for wheelchairs at all, even in the dining area.
We [3 - family with 18 yr daughter] loved the Plughole Cave adventure and well worth the cost. It was one of our top 3 highlights of our 2-week trip to Australia. It starts with rappelling into a sink-hole where we enter a cave, and...More
Exceeded my expectations with a guide who was knowledgeable and amicable. We went on the Imperial tour as it was classed as 'easy' and the thought of 910 steps on the Lucas tour put us off after all the Bushwalking in the Mountains nearby! It...More
Great day out, spectacular caves, our guide was a wealth of information and friendly. No question remained unanswered. Amenities fairly clean. Parking was free and okay. The road in was a bit hairy at times, but okay. Totally recommend this as an outing.
I joined a few friends on a visit to the caves. I was a very late addition to a party of 4 and called be added to their tour the day before, during the busiest time of year.
Although I wasn't able to join them...More

The New South Wales Train website has a lot of information for trip planning. I recommend getting an Opal card. They are sold at most convenience/petrol stores and can be topped up there as well. They make getting around Australia via public transportation very easy. Check out transportnsw.
As the other reviewer commented, I also recommend going straight to the Jenolan Caves website for prices and cave choices.
Blue Mountains Trolley Tours runs a bus from Katoomba to the caves. They are the only company that provides this service, so if you do not have a car, you should check out their website.
Note that booking the actual cave tour along with the transport is an option through Trolley Tours. I recommend this as they will work out the cave tour times to be compatible with the tour bus departure times.
Hope you enjoy your time, it is a beautiful area.

Hi Ella Dael
Tough question, depends what you want to get out of the caves. Unlike other cave formations, Jenolan is a number of different caves and because of the various conditions the formations in them are quite different. My choice would be as follows.
1, River Cave. Climb down the stairs to deep underground and see the river and steep stairs back out. Along the way their is spectacular crystal, veils and stal/stags.
2. imperial Diamond .Some beautiful crystal formations and not so strenuous.
3 Lucas Cave. Big Chambers least claustrophobic (if that is an issue) Some very large stal/stags.
4. Orient. Big Caverns/chambers with lots of decorations some crystal
5. Chifley Cave. Not as spectacular as the others but features a lot of history from early settlement of the area.
You really want to try and spend a day there and do two tours. One in the morning one in the afternoon.
I suggest you go to the cave website. The descriptions are fairly accurate. Unfortunately you cant post website address's in Trip Advisor
