- AliceBuffalo, Texas86 contributionsLovely authentic townI went with Vallarta Adventures and I am glad I did! I loved the trip to the waterfall, we swam and then walked back down and across to the beach which was so relaxing drinking very well priced Coronas in the sun. Yelapa was very quaint and authentic. Yes there was some nasty areas with trash lying around but that's all part of it! 99% of it was beautiful and the locals didn't harass you at all to buy from them, which is unlike some other places. Recommend! Here's a tip... the iguana guy offers you a hold of the iguana then says "that'll be 100 pesos" 😅Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 October 2023
- Hope W71 contributionsGreat day trip to Yelapa & Majahuitas! We did the Yelapa & Majahuitas tour through Vallarta Adventures (who I will review separately!!). I was surprised at the town of Yelapa in general. It's very small and the "roads" are very narrow, hilly, and can be hard to walk on at times. 4-wheelers seem to be their choice vehicle for delivering goods, so when one is on the road, you have to step off to the side for them to get past you on the road. We all walked to the waterfall together as a group from the boat, and then we were able to go on our own for the remainder of the time allowed. There are many tables set up along the walk to the bridge, adults & children selling their goods. Majahuitas is an incredible little beach area with LOTS of secret little places to sit in the shade. We made the mistake of finding a place on the beach & didn't realize until it was time to leave that there were so many other places to explore. I would have liked more time there - Very peaceful!Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 February 2024
- CouncilKimCouncil, Idaho73 contributionsVacation in ParadiseWhat a relaxing trip staying in paradise. Our 10 day visit included eating at a variety of restaurants. Pollo Bollo, Tacos y Mas, Los Abuelos, and Yacht Club food was delicious! The best was the tacos and quesadillas at Tacos Yolanda on the first floor where we stayed. Our hosts were very accommodating and gracious. We hung out on the beach at Del Mar for the cheap beer. Their arrachera nachos were also delicious! We had the honor of being chosen by one of the beach dogs one day as he followed us and hung out all day. The flora is spectacular, and the people warm and friendly. We will definitely be back again.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 February 2024
- Darrel B137 contributionsNice beach to spend time onDecent beach to spend the day on with numerous restaurants to choose from. Snorkel from the beach with caution with all the boat traffic on-going. Depending on the time of year one may want to venture to the waterfalls or explore the townVisited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 12 March 2024
- Lindsey M11 contributionsOk in AprilTaking the boat over to Yelapa is always fun. It was great to lay on the beach, eat some sushi rolls and take the atv tour through the town up to the waterfalls. Unfortunately we weren’t aware that the falls weren’t flowing when we went up so were a little disappointed to see no water and a gross pool with stagnant water. It’s best to go in March I guess when the water is flowing and you can see dolphins and whales during the boat ride.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 April 2024
- Wendy KSeattle, Washington515 contributionsYelapa Worth The Boat RideWe took the water ferry from Los Muertos Pier. It was pretty full, since this time of year only a few trips from PV. Crew was very friendly and helpful. It was fun to see all the houses and resorts in the bays and coves we passed. Yelapa Beach was great for swimming. Lounge chairs at Angelina’s were a good location but a bit worn out. Food at Angelina’s decent and service wonderful. Rudimentary toilets and shower available. Water Taxi back four hours later was the only afternoon ferry to PV. A bit rougher and bumpier ride back. Getting off the boat in PV not easy because the boat was bouncing a lot. But again the crew was very helpful. We did not go into town, just stayed on the beach. I think Yelapa would have been much different 15 years ago, or maybe now at nighttime as well. During the day though, definitely overrun with folks from the water ferry and various “tour boats”. And this is the low season….Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 June 2024

We rented an umbrella and chairs, relaxed a while with drinks, explored the town, then relaxed at the beach with more drinks. It was a pleasant day and certainly worth the trip.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 3 July 2024

People have been telling us to go to Yelapa for about 7 years and we finally did it this year. We were too late. Yelapa has jumped the shark. The water taxi ride from Boca to Yelapa was nice and we enjoyed the scenery. That said I was very surprised to see high levels of development at Las Animas and Mahujitas beaches. I expected those to be somewhat empty.
That did prepare me for the turn into Yelapa bay, where we greeted by numerous water taxis and tour boats bringing many humans to the area. The main beach was possibly the most busy beach I have seen in Mexico, with the possible exception of Los Muertos. There were extensive gasoline aromas in the air and the water from the large amount of boat traffic. The price of food and drinks in the restaurants was quiet a bit higher than expected, even if it has to be brought in by boat.
Walking over the hill and into the town was a mixed bag of experiences. What used to be a quaint fishing village is being converted to another haven for the work from home crowd.
We originally planned on about four or five hours in Yelapa. After one hour, I was ready to catch the water taxi back to Boca.
A huge part of the crowds the day we were there were on tours brought from cruise ships by Vallarta Adventures. Yelapa is no longer an undiscovered secret.

We were excited to come here as the photos look beautiful but were sorely disappointed. The time and effort it took to get to Yelapa coming from PV coupled with the dirty beach was not worth it to us. The beach is filled with gas from the water taxis and the river with sewage runs into the bay. The restaurants are all tourist traps. We got hustled by our water taxi guide (Ernie) to go to Tonis Oasis and it was over priced and the service was less than desirable. Better to just go to a beach in PV or outside your hotel!

A great way to spend the day on this beautiful beach! You will need to arrive via boat. We caught a water taxi at Boca Beach for 200 pesos each. We arrived and found plenty of beach space. The vendors are on the beach and you can buy some nice silver jewelry at great prices and they were not pushy. The food and service was amazing. We ordered a combo seafood platter and you can see by the photos, it was plenty.
Great place for kids and adults a like. Highly recommend!

We took the water taxi from the pier at Los Muertos Beach in Puerto Vallarta to Yelapa Beach. The cost of the water taxi was 450 pesos per person return and included 2 loungers and an umbrella on the Beach. We took a fun ATV Taxi ride through the village, up to the waterfall and then had a lovely lunch on the beach before spending a few hours relaxing. We passed a lot of interesting looking shops/vendors during our ATV Ride and will definitely return to spend some time wandering through through the village and checking out the shops, perhaps staying at one of the quaint B&B's.

Yelalpa usually gets a bad rap because if you book via a tour some people won’t find it worth the money at 100 bucks per person. The best way to visit yelalpa is los likely doing it via a water taxi from los muertos Beach. But if you have a decent sized group (4-6). Rent a panga for your family. I rented one for 6 hours for about 300 usd. It took us to los Arcos, Yelalpa and Las Animas. 3 tours for the price of 1. You dictate the times you want to stay. Yelalpa is no big deal in my opinion! Use Thelma Santana for your Panga rental.

Everyone has their own opinion and expectation. I think is a nice beach, even is the "last" of all beaches around Vallarta. To reach there is it takes time and money because you need a water taxi. We decided to pay a private one who waited for us until the afternoon. The Rest. Angelina is good, a bit pricy, I guess there are no too many in the whole beach. They do not charge for the beach chair as long as you consume in the restaurant. I would assume going in "high" season (Nov. to Feb.) must be more expensive. Regardless, I do recommend the trip because you will see beautiful views on the ride.

I was staying in Puerto Vallarta with a friend and wanted to visit Yelapa after having seen a few YouTubes on it. It was a fun day but I was somewhat underwhelmed. The water taxi was fun (bring a sweater) and we did see a whale. The beach is somewhat crowded but it was enjoyable to have a margarita while sitting in the warm sun and sand. We hiked to the waterfall but unfortunately all the lazy gringos getting rides on ATVs made the experience less enjoyable. I just don’t understand why most of these tourists couldn’t walk. Or ride horses, maybe? You have to flatten yourself against the wall to let the ATVs pass. The village is a warren of small lanes that is easy to get lost in. But it’s not that big so you’ll find your way eventually. Something that I found disturbing were the guys hauling iguanas around trying to persuade tourists to have their picture taken with the poor animals. Overall, Yelapa is somewhat of a tourist trap.

We did a day trip boat tour combined with whale watching and Yelapa. There is no public dock at Yelapa, so we had to hire a small boat water taxi to take us to shore and we still had to jump into water to get to shore. The small beach here is very crowded with tourists, chairs and beach umbrellas. Instead of hanging out on the beach, we decided to do a walking tour of the narrow pathways into Yelapa.

We were in the area, so we checked out the beach. It was uniquely positioned with the bay and the ocean. The walk to get to the beach was beautiful and the views on the walk were fantastic. The beach was crowded and I wouldn't say that it was quiet or relaxing, but was worth seeing since we were there.
