It was a very cold and windy day, not the best day to visit but the wind seemed a predominant part of the island. Cold but worth a visit!

We visited Lindisfarne Castle at the end of December. We managed to choose a lovely but brisk day for a walk but unfortunately we couldn’t go into the castle as it was closed for maintenance works. This was rather disappointing as we had been recommended...More

We visited the Holy Island and unfortunately found the castle was closed. However, we had a nice walk round the edge of the scaffolded building and up to the sweet little garden designed by the great gardener, Gertrude Jekyll. This must look stunning in the...More

Move along people, nothing to see here....Except plastic sheeting and scaffolding. The information on the National Trust website is very misleading especially if like us you are not familiar with the area. "While the castle is closed for conservation work you can still visit our...More

We so enjoyed our trip to the Holy Island and this was the highlight. We plan on sailing back here next year. It should be on everyone’s to see list!

Having walked the St Cuthberts Way and ended on Holy Island it was disappointing to find the castle shrouded in tarpaulin and scaffold so couldn’t even take a photo. Bought a postcard so knew what we had missed

It was pouring when we went but still had a lovely time! We obviously didn’t explore as much as we could of because of being unprepared for the weather but it was still nice to see the famous island and cross over the sea. Yes...More

We have been meaning to visit Holy Island for years, and this week have done so. Having checked in to the hotel, we gazed from our window that looked to the castle. And what did we see? - scaffolding. But it is worth walking to,...More

Unfortunately the castle was shrouded with scaffolding when we tried to visit so we're unable to see it properly, maybe next time.

We went to visit the castle on holy island. Checked the tide times as you can only cross when the tide is out. The drive over is lovely and scenic. Parking was £2.40 for 3 hours. Started the walk through the village, which again is...More
