An unplanned bonus to a sight-seeing tour of Kent

During a weekend in Kent, primarily attending the Chatham Laurel & Hardy Convention, we also visited Ramsgate & Deal. I had not been to Deal since the long, hot summer of 1976 to visit relatives & remember Eastry, Ham & Sandwich as being particularly beautiful. Both of us are keen wildlife enthusiasts & a quick 'google' of Trip Advisor whilst... More

it was a lovely autumn day when we set off but I wish I had worn a warmer coat , its colder out on the river, though if you sit near the engine housing you get some heat off the funnel. As the boat moves downstream the Stour widens as it passes the old Pfizer buildings until you can see... More

The seals at Pegwell Bay have become quite famous in recent years and this is a good way to see them close up. The owner/ captain is mildly eccentric in a good way. The journey to get to the seals is longer and more industrial than you might imagine. You will see some historic features and plenty of seabirds before... More

On a day trip to Sandwich we enquired about boat trips from the quay. Captain Colin had just returned from a 2hr morning tour to see the seals at Pegwell Bay. Seeing my disappointment Cptn Colin kindly offered to give us a quick 30 min tour along the river. It was lovely to see several dutch barges being used as... More

A relaxing couple of hours cruising down the stour to see wild seals sunbathing and playing in the water. Captain Colin was welcoming and very knowledgeable about the local history and wildlife. Well worth a trip.

Great way to spend a couple of hours cruising along the River Stour with the entertaining Captain Colin, who, in heroic fashion, also saved the life of a dying seagull caught in fishing wire, with the help of some very able fellow passengers. The seals were a sight to see all sunbathing on the bank and frolicking in the water.

The Sandwich Riverbus is a super experience for adults and children alike. The weather was amazing - the boat meandered down the river for an 50 minutes in sunshine past all sorts of history - which the captain explained to the adults and the children watched various wildlife like seagulls, egrets, herons, lapwings, cormorants and lots more. Then we came... More

This was a really interesting trip for people who have lived in this part of Kent all their lives but have never known what they have under their noses! Captain Colin is a mine of information on the history of the river and the wild life! If you think there may be little chance of seeing the seals or maybe... More

We did the Seal watching tour in July 2016 and found Captain Colin's knowledgeable commentary made the trip very interesting. Although we are local to the area, he told us a lot about the history that we did not know before. We also saw a lot of seals. Highly recommended.

I found the details online and phoned to book our trip; Captain Colin answered the phone immediately and booked us in for the following week; all we had to do was turn up at the right time. The boat holds 12 passengers. It was a really interesting trip, past the marina and then what was Pfizers, so quite industrial in... More
