A beautiful walk from Freshwater Bay viewing both sides of the Island's Western shores (North and South). Great view across to the mainland and Hurst Castle. Also across to Old Harry Rocks.

a lovely walk to see the needles from freshwater bay, took a couple of hours as not hurrying, worth walking by the sea cliffs rather than taking the central path, as you get to see so much more

We parked at the small NT car park and walked along the track which led to the downs. We continued to the Needles, took the obligatory photographs and then headed back to Tennyson’s monument. It was a beautiful, sunny day. The walk over the downs was mainly flat and spacious, but it’s quite an incline to reach the monument ( although there is one bench half way up to get your breath back and admire the views) and the area around the Old Battery is quite steep. The return down to the car park was also steep, a mixture of uneven steps and tree roots.

A superb walk up from the Needles Car Park. Once you reach Tennyson's Monument you can either keep going to Freshwater or walk back along to the high route to the Needles Old Battery.

This place was supposed to be just a point on the map during our cliff walk between the Needles and Freshwater, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of the day.
Great views, an impressive monument - all on a sunny autumn day framed by a blue sky.
A wonderful place and unforgettable views during our vacation on the Isle of Wight.

Even on a bad day this is a stunning and dramatic walk. Good views of channel and back to the mainland.

We set off from Freshwater to trek to the Needles over Tennyson Down and the Needles Headland. It’s a beautiful walk on a sunny day with wonderful vistas over the Channel on one side and the Solent on the other. Sheer white cliffs on the Channel facing side. Mainly flat but modest inclines in a few places. Exhilarating walk. Really enjoyable in good weather!

Nice trek to get to the Tennyson monument and it’s well worth it though. The views from the monuments are simply stunning.

what a nice walk up to the monument a 1.9 mile walk a little bis steep but if you have a weel cheer you may not make it up there or if you have crutches it would take a while to get up there but apart from that love walk

Stunning walk along the top and not too steep. Would say reasonably accessible for anyone that is active. Easy to walk from the needles to freshwater and views are spectacular on a clear day. Lots of wide open space with beautiful flowers and birds.
