Overview
More
The gardens at Houghton Lodge are Grade II* listed, and surround an enchanting and unique example of an 18th Century "Cottage Orné". A haven of peace above the tranquil beauty of the River Test with both informal and formal gardens. Chalk Cob walls enclose a traditional Kitchen Garden with espaliers, themed herb garden, wildflowers and a wonderful Orchid House which include many rare varieties. In early summer the fragrant peonies line the stunning Rose Arbour path leading to hidden corners of the garden. The herbaceous border has year long beauty, bursting with bulbs in the spring, a tapestry of colour in the summer, and dahlias to brighten your heart in the autumn. Enjoy over 15 acres of meadows and walks along the picturesque River Test and meet resident Alpacas, Tom, Dick and Harry and a snorting Topiary "Dragon" Enjoy specialist coffees, teas, light lunches and homemade cakes in Daisy's of Houghton Tea House and art exhibitions in The Orangery.

We started with coffee in the cafe. Delightful helpful staff and really great coffee at a reasonable price. Then the gardens- as stated by others, so relaxing, and lots of little corners to explore so it never felt too busy. A walk to the river...More

Despite its classical layout this garden maintains an informal air and is so relaxing to look around. Lovely watermeadows to wander through then walk along the bank of the River Test. Pleasing lack of signs everywhere! Then finish visit with visit to lovely tea room

We visited as a group of 17 to visit the house and gardens as well as having tea afterwards - it was enjoyed by all with special thanks to our host and guide for an entertaining and informative afternoon.

This attraction is well signposted although off the beaten track and has a decent sized car park. Entrance is through the restaurant although we were not asked to pay to go in and things did seem pretty chaotic. To be fair it was a Bank...More
