This Tudor farmhouse, located adjacent to the River Thames, was built of local limestone in 1570. Later, the Manor became the Cotswold retreat of William Morris and his family, friends and colleagues. When Morris first saw the Manor in 1871, he was delighted by this 'loveliest haunt of ancient peace'; he signed a joint lease for the property with his friend and colleague Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the Pre-Raphaelite artist. Today, the Manor welcomes more than 20,000 visitors each year (between April and October) who come to explore this special place that provided inspiration to Morris and others.

Adult ticket price is £9.00 (but concessions are available).

We booked pre-timed tickets - interesting house and super enthusiastic and friendly volunteers in every room keen to assist. Good tea room and a little gift shop. Outdoor seating for refreshments if you have better weather than us.

We booked tickets in advance for a Saturday afternoon; all visits in the afternoon are on timed tickets, which is a wonderful idea because it means there are never too many people trying to look at the rooms at the same time. The visitor flow around the Manor was very well laid out so that you could see all of... More

We booked timed tickets for a Saturday afternoon visit and loved the house which has a wonderful atmosphere and is full of interesting features and artefacts belonging to the Morris family including works by Rossetti and Burne-Jones. The refurbished attic rooms are delightful but sadly it was pouring with rain on and off and so the lovely gardens were out... More

Thank you for your review and feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed your visit and it was a shame that the weather meant that you could not enjoy the gardens as much as you would have wished. We are in the process of putting together a Heritage Lottery bid to help improve the facilities at the Manor, restore some of... More

We visited the manor on Saturday and knew it was the former home of William Morris, but were surprised to learn that Dante Gabriel Rossetti was co tenant! It is a beautiful house with many wonderful relics relating to Morris and Rossetti. Loved the staircase up to the attic rooms👍

If you like classic country houses but without all the overwhelming decor, then this is your place. Plus if you are interested in William Morris, his designs and the trials of his family then this is a must. It is a beautiful house, on the edge of a lovely village with a great pub (The Plough) and a short walk... More

We both enjoyed our visit to Kelmscott. Very picturesque and full of charm and history. The room guide sheet provided enough information about each room. We found the attic to be fascinating! Staff polite and welcoming. We will return!

William Morris had plenty of redeeming factors and a somewhat chequered relationship worth finding out more about. This is a great place if you are into fashion and if you are into gossip.

I think most people will seek out this attraction as it is one that most represents the great man himself. The number of original artefacts here is really quite amazing as is the house itself. Talking of which, take the time to watch the film of how bad the house was when it was restored, it realty is very interesting.... More

Thank you for your positive review of your visit to Kelmscott Manor. We are pleased you enjoyed your visit and the film of the restoration of the Manor in the 1960's. We were lucky to have been given a good print of this film and hopes it adds to the visitors experience. More

Cam in a coach party. We were welcomed with drinks and biscutis - very civilised. There was an interesting talk about Morris, the house and the whole Arts and Crafts movement. The house is interesting, but don 't expect too much. It is obviously full of Morris designs on fabrics and other items. The gardens are pleasant - do pay... More

Apart from the wonderful setting and the helpful interpretation boards, leaflets and guides this has to be a must see destination because of Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement. Not just a house- but garden, riverside setting and heritage village. Car park is 8 minutes walk from house through village. All room guides were first rate- not intrusive- but... More
