Located off the Roman Road from Ingatestone to Chelmsford the windmill is visible from the road on the Chelmsford bound side, accessed by road through a narrow (7 foot) barrier into a free car park which doubles as the car park for the village hall, playground and playing field which the windmill sits within. The windmill has a bush barrier circumnavigating it bar an access gate where there is an information sign giving details of the site's history. As the windmill sits atop a mound the barrier causes no issues seeing the windmill. Seen on a sunny afternoon it was an impressive sight even though it was closed due to Covid restrictions.

I love Mountnessing Windmill and I often visit it whenever I am in Essex. I used to live in Ingatestone. The windmill is nice to see in the distance, but even better when you are up close to it. To look up at it from the ground is great. It was closed the last time I went, but I have been inside it before. My only problem was getting up and down all those stairs, (when it was open to the public), but you expect this if you want to go into the mill. I will visit again in the future.

It is what it is. Pretty windmill in a pretty setting. Not too much to say. Lovely pub (the plough) opposite.

We visited the beautiful village of Mountnessing this weekend and stumbled across this beautiful windmill, the green outside is the perfect setting for a picnic and there is a great choice of pubs nearby for a spot of lunch

Beautifully sited on top of a mound overlooking a cricket ground. Our visit was on the last day it is open in 2019. Big thanks to the volunteers whose knowledge and enthusiasm was infectious.

There is a free car park right by the windmill which is open one Sunday a month during summer. The mill is effectively in three levels with the brick level at the bottom. You have to climb the steep steps at the back to get up to where they ground the corn. There is a hand rail to help. The final level is up a ladder. The volunteers were so friendly explaining how it all worked and how the mill turned round. Also from the outside it’s very pretty to look at.

We stumbled across this lovely windmill one Sunday afternoon. Really nice spot and a very interesting talk with some enthusiastic volunteers. Great for a quick visit and very educational for the kids. There’s a nice park for the kids close by too. And the George and Dragon is minutes away!!!

The windmill wasn't open when we visited and it has limited opening, but it was still great to see and we picnicked within view. Nothing else to see, but there's a large car park which also serves the hall and recreation field

Mountnessing park. Free parking next to village hall. Play area for children and free to use exercise equipment for adults. Windmill over to one side of the park open only at certain times but nice to look at.
