Whilst this park is a pleasure to visit, there are one or two niggling problems.
Car parking is quite expensive, particularly if you just want pop in to exercise your dog. You have to put your registration number in so there is no giving tickets to someone as you are leaving or taking a chance on not paying.
It is a magnificent area with a large and beautiful lake, woodlands and plenty of room to walk and let your dog have a good run.
There is s footbridge across the corner of the lake which has been 'closed for repair' for about 3 years which is very annoying !
The cafe is nice and a good place to enjoy a coffee after your walk.
Just reduce the car park charges and fix the bridge and it would get a higher rating from me and I suspect, others too.

Very disappointed that you can no longer hand feed the deer. Health & Safety has gone mad - there are now barrier fences and tubes to slide food down. A great idea for small children but people should have a choice to hand feed at their own risk. And £2.20 for an hour parking is extortionate

I cannot fault the park at all, some lovely walks enjoyed by my family. Only downside is the customer service in the cafe. They shut early due to staff illness (we weren’t to know), there was a sign up saying closed but people were coming and going plus sat in there eating. My wife popped her head in my eldest daughter and was spoken to in such a rude and patronising manor that my daughter ended up in tears. I accept it’s frustrating having your plans on a Sunday changed by one of your co-workers being ill but there is no need to take it out on customers.

Visited in April & May 2023, as well as on many other occasions in previous years. 4 separate car parks enable you to pick a spot to enter the park at the point that suits you. There is also a decent cafe and 2 sets of public toilets at 2 of the 4 car parks. There is "Stick Man" trail, as well as an opportunity to see and feed deer. Lots of open space for games/picnics and a lovely lake with fishing opportunities and 2 sets of children's playgrounds

The rolling landscape covers over 520 acres of woodland, meadows, grassland and lakes. Apparently, the place started as a medieval deer park during the 12th century and is likely to have been associated with a manorial centre near St Peter’s Church.
Unfortunately, none of the history is written on information boards, though there are a few maps around the site and a set of steps to (I don't know what - no details anywhere!). Fallow deer are still kept and can be fed by visitors – but please use deer food (notice explains!).
The estate was owned by the Tower family from 1750 until the Second World War. The house and park were used by the forces between 1943 to 1945 and apparently suffered considerable damage. The hall was demolished in 1951 after a fire. In 1953, the park was purchased by Essex County Council to save it as an open space for the public, and it is still a Grade 2 listed historic landscape. But where is the evidence to show that it should be listed?
Great place for picnics, walks and playing with the kids though!

The stick man trail as advertised on the website is mostly closed due to renovation work. This should have been done before the school holidays started as many families will be disappointed. We travelled 45 minutes to this venue and had it been on their website about the closures, we would have gone to a different park. Please update your website about the closures.

Very pleasant four hours spent discovering this lovely park. So much to do for the little ones, good play areas, open spaces for footie, trees to climb and deer to feed.
Two ice cream vans, a bit on the expensive side. The cafe looked inviting but we had opted for a packed lunch. Toilets clean, in fact the entire park was free of litter.

It's a nice big park with some woodland and a couple of average playgrounds but we didn't need to travel 1 hr for that, we have similar places much closer. We went for the Stickman experience but couldn't find it. We followed the trail map but apart from a wooden nose stuck on a tree stump in the playground our kids saw nothing else. Terrible cafe by the way.

All the lovely Stickman trail has gone! This includes the large stickman/family kids could climb on in both the playgrounds, plus the whole area where there was the xylophone and natural pretend play stuff. Really disappointing. The tunnels under the little hills have also been removed. Wasted journey for us.
The handful of new carvings aren't a substitute for all the things our kids enjoyed playing on most disappearing.
It's a drive for us and it's not worth it now. Will stick to great notley play trail for our family.

Visited the park to take part in Brentwood parkrun.
The park is large, hilly, with lots of variety. It's really good for dog walkers and hikers.
Plenty of car parking. Toilets and a cafe too.

Is the stickman trail just as good as the grufflo trail?
Written 20 August 2018
It depends on the age of your children and whether they know the stickman books. My two grandchildren only 2 and 3 so they enjoy climbing on the structures.
Written 21 August 2018
Hi
Unfortunately not ... There is a cafe on site which is very reasonable

Are the stick man trial and Gruffalo trail quite close to each other
Written 16 March 2017
Hiya they are in different parks but both located in brentwood. you would need a car to be able to get from one to the other easily 😊

As far as I know there is no local bus but is walkable rom The Nags Head on London Road, Brentwood. I would think it is about 0.75 miles.
