We stayed as a family in a house in Walberswick and used the ferry to get to the fish restaurant on the Southwold side of the river. Apparently, the ferry is usually a rowing boat (and has been for decades) but the alternative to a...More

A real and necessary working ferry. Rowed by a good chap, costs £1, well worth it, up to 12 people. 10am to 5pm each day. The Bailey bridge is out of action so its worth using!

Whilst staying in Walberswick, we were disappointed to learn that the Bailey Bridge over the river was closed due to being unsafe. However, the council were paying the ferry to keep open out of season to enable people to get to Southwold on foot rather...More

Rowed across the river in a fairly small boat for £1 per person. Not sure what the capacity of the boat is but there were about 9 people plus dogs and kid's pushchair in our crossing. Rowed against the tide then drifted into the pier...More

Very relaxing short trip across the water. I usually hate boats but this was a lovely, calm crossing and we loved Walberswick.

This is a very short trip but well worth doing if you want to avoid the long walk back. Good fun too!

It’s a nice way to get to Walberswick which is a really lovely village. I think there’s something very special in this day and age about being rowed across a river by one person in a boat that carries 11 people. A nice thing to...More

What a great way to leave your car in Walberswick and get across to Southwold, the walk into Southwold was pleasant too and lots of explore. The men on the boats took pushchairs and little ones in their stride - safely!
