We decided to drop into Leiston Abbey just before the end of our holiday as it looked like an interesting site. Exploring the ruins, we found several information boards that were interesting and the ruins were good to walk around with our children. Had we...More

interesting ruins to look at , and a grassy spot for a picnic. I think there are sometimes events here that may mean that the parking is restricted, but when we were there it was very quiet.

The Abbey ruins are interesting for a visit, still in use as a music centre by ProCorda. The cream tea concert in the medieval hall was a real treat. The music was put together by the "intermediate" course of students, and played brilliantly. It was...More

Their concert series featuring young musicians is a real pleasure. The Abbey does a great job in bringing on young musiciians in a remarkable setting near ruined ecclesiastical buildings.

Its quite picturesque, I had a nice walk around but there really isn't that much to see, you could go for a picnic.. but its not going to entertain you for long.

Interesting Abbey ruins. 30 mins here is sufficient. Good for a few photos and reading some of the information provided around the site. Not a must see, but a good time killer all the same.

The remains of the abbey are in a lovely rural setting. Notice boards help to describe what the various rooms were used for, and give some history of the site and its inhabitants.

We were surprised by the extent of the remaining structures, which really impressed upon us the large scale grandeur. There is a wonderful ambience of calm on the site Fascinating to see the buildings added onto the the abbey walls. We were lucky enough to...More

Planning to spend a couple of days in East Suffolk, we looked up the National Trust and English Heritage to see what was available. Leiston Abbey is an English Heritage property, actually run by a musical organisation. However, you are able to walk all over...More
